Description:
The Field Engineer (FE) works directly for the Superintendent and is expected to exercise judgment and discretion in making recommendations, implementing policies and procedures and handling a wide variety of matters in the field. The role is primarily forward‑looking, proactively aiding the Superintendent in front‑line field management. The FE is responsible for the majority of the layout on a project, supervision of trade workers and subcontractor employees, lift drawings, safety, and quality‑control responsibilities.
Although most of the FE’s time is spent in the field, additional duties will require office work. This is a safety‑sensitive position.
Position
Qualifications:
- A 4‑year degree in Civil, Structural, Architecture or Construction Management.
- Valid Driver’s License.
- Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel‑based templates), Project Sight, Primavera and Auto Desk Suite.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Past internships in the construction industry are preferred, but not required.
- Project layout (surveying) in conformance with design and contract documents.
- Check concrete forms for accuracy and adequacy of construction, including all embedded items, before placement of concrete.
- Perform production trend analysis for quantities of work in place and report for the weekly and monthly schedule and cost control reports.
- Assist with quality control, site safety initiatives and coordination of trade partners as delegated by the project superintendent. May include directing a small workforce to gain supervisory experience.
- Coordinate material deliveries by comparing material requirements with delivery status and inspecting delivered materials for quantity, quality and condition, and reporting missing or damaged items.
- Assist foremen and trade partners with interpretation of plans and specifications.
- Oversight of trade partners and direction of work forces (e.g., a labor crew) of employees or trade partner employees to gain supervisory experience.
- Participate in jobsite safety meetings, weekly safety audits, etc.
- Collaborate with the VDC team on VDC scope of work, execution plan and deliverables related to field operations. Review and navigate within the current 3D model viewing and scheduling software.

Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 25 pounds frequently, and up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.
- Walks, kneels, sits, crouches, reaches, stoops, reads, speaks, pushes, pulls, lifts, stands, and fingers/ types as required.
- Walks to access file cabinets, office machinery, boxes, cabinets, etc.
- Constantly operates a computer and other office machinery such as a calculator, copy machine, phone, and printer.
- Frequently communicates with employees and external stakeholders regarding office administration.
- Constantly computes, analyzes, and conceptualizes mathematical calculations and formulas.
- Regularly sits at a computer screen.
- Reads written communications, views mail submissions, and must read blueprints and take/verify field measurements.
- Climbs or descends ladders, stairs, scaffolding, and ramps at various heights.
- Balances to maintain equilibrium, walk, stand, or crouch safely.
- Stoops by bending the trunk downward and forward by the waist.
- Has visual acuity and ability to operate a vehicle as certified.
