This is an exciting time to work for Amarillo College! We are seeking our next Part-Time Supplemental Instructor - Music Suzukiwho will be all-in on our mission and who willteach applied instrumentallessons, group lessons, and/or other related content to the Suzuki pedagogy.

DESCRIPTION of SUZUKI PROGRAM

The Amarillo College Suzuki Program, founded in 1977, is a well-established program in the panhandle of Texas teaching students ages 3-18 on violin, viola, cello, flute, and guitar. Amarillo is a town rich in arts and culture, with possibilities to perform with a professional symphony, opera, several theater outlets and numerous church and other performance venues. Qualifications

EDUCATION

Required:

Completion of the Suzuki Associate of Americas (SAA), Completion of Suzuki Every Child Can courseand commitment to continue training.

Preferred:
Bachelor's Degree,Registered Suzuki Associate of Americas (SAA) and Suzuki training unit levels 1-4 or beyond (may be completed after application).

EXPERIENCE

Required:

One (1) year of performance or teaching experience and instrument proficiency to be accepted for SAA Teacher Training.

Preferred:

* Trained in the Suzuki Method beyond unit 4, with instrument proficiency.

* Experience teaching students, Pre-K - 12th grade.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

* Instruct private lessons and group instruction using the Suzuki teaching method and adopted AC Suzuki terminology and practices.

* Teach private lessons, up to 2 group classes per week and assist in leading play ins, workshop sessions and community performances as needed.

* Attend solo recitals, workshops, concerts, fundraising and community outreach events.

* Teach day and/or evening courses as required.

* Attend briefings on procedures, advising, registration, and general policy.

* Assist with registration.

* Complete appropriate administrative paperwork and performance evaluations in a timely manner.

* Participate in department, division and college meetings as assigned or required.

* Assume responsibility for the orderliness of the learning environment and in the appropriate and safe use of instructional facilities and equipment.

* Perform other work-related duties as required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

* Knowledge of subject matter and related and/or relevant topics and issues in the discipline

* Ability to work with and motivate students.

* Ability to demonstrate excellent teaching skills.

* Ability to maintain an established schedule, which may include evenings and multiple campus locations.

* Ability to work under stress.

* Ability to work well with a team or independently.

* Excellent oral, written and listening skills, including computer skills sufficient for email, course development and course management.

* Must understand and apply learner-centered and high impact instructional methods.

* Must be able to deal with people in a professional manner.

* Must be able to work with students of diverse backgrounds.

* Demonstrate commitment to student success, innovation, collaboration and instructional quality.

* Demonstrate and maintain competence in the use of instructional technology.

* Educate themselves regarding College policies.

* Ensure effective two-way communication at all levels of responsibility.

Salary:

Amarillo College follows a lag pay strategy, with starting offers typically between the minimum and midpoint of the pay grade, rarely reaching the maximum to support long-term growth within each position.

Amarillo College Pay Grades (salary is determined by Human Resources based on education, work experience and internal comparisons).

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, or sit for extended periods of time, and be able to move materials weighing up to 25 pounds.
