This is an exciting time to work for Amarillo College! We are seeking our next Part-Time Supplemental Instructor - Licensed Vocational Nursing (LVN) Clinicals who will be all-in on our mission and who plays a vital role in supporting student success by providing individualized and small-group instruction to nursing students enrolled in the Vocational Nursing Program. This position is designed to reinforce and clarify clinical and course concepts, provide targeted assistance for students who need additional guidance, and promote deeper learning through supplemental instructional strategies.
The Supplemental Instructor collaborates closely with nursing faculty and staff to align support with course objectives, build students' confidence, and prepare them for success in both the classroom and clinical setting. Through effective instructional practices, mentorship, and professional role modeling, the LVN Clinical Supplemental Instructor enhances student learning, skill development, and readiness for the demands of professional nursing.
Qualifications
EDUCATION:
Required:
Vocational Nursing Certificate with current Texas State License.
Preferred:
Associate's Degree (or higher) in Nursing with current Texas State License.
CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES:
Required:
Unencumbered Texas State Vocational Nursing License.
EXPERIENCE:
Preferred:
Teaching experience and/or experience tutoring or mentoring students in a community college or clinical setting.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
* Provide supplemental instruction and reinforcement of clinical and classroom concepts in nursing courses.
* Deliver individualized and small-group instruction to students needing additional academic support.
* Attend scheduled sessions and collaborate with course faculty to align supplemental instruction with course objectives.
* Use a variety of instructional strategies and learning activities designed to promote understanding, skill mastery, and confidence in clinical practice.
* Assist students with applied coursework, skill development, and critical thinking exercises related to patient care.
* Model professional nursing behavior, ethics, and effective communication in all instructional interactions.
* Monitor student progress and provide feedback to faculty on emerging student needs, trends, or concerns.
* Support student development of effective study habits, test preparation skills, and clinical judgment.
* Incorporate learner-centered, high-impact practices to engage diverse learners.
* Complete administrative paperwork, attendance records, and performance evaluations in a timely manner.
* Participate in departmental meetings, trainings, and in-service opportunities to maintain knowledge of current nursing practices and teaching strategies.
* Maintain professional competence in subject matter, instructional methods, and use of educational technology.
* Perform other work-related duties as required.

* Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
* Ability to maintain confidentiality of student records and sensitive information.
* Positive and supportive attitude when working with students, faculty, and community partners.
Salary:
Amarillo College follows a lag pay strategy, with starting offers typically between the minimum and midpoint of the pay grade, rarely reaching the maximum to support long-term growth within each position.
Pay grade 10 Amarillo College Pay Grades (salary is determined by Human Resources based on education, work experience and internal comparisons).
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to travel between offices and buildings, and requires the ability to lift, carry, push, pull and/or maneuver office supplies up to twenty-five (25) pounds as needed.
