This is an exciting time to work for Amarillo College! We are seeking our next Professional Tutor at the East Campus Academic Success Center who will be all in on our mission and who will provide individualized or small-group academic support to students in a non-classroom setting with a focus on supporting learners enrolled in technical education programs. This role assists students proactively to enhance learning or remedially to address areas of academic need.

Tutors serve as key resources in supporting student success, fostering academic growth, and promoting engagement with college resources.

Qualifications

EDUCATION:

Required:

High School Diploma or GED with completion of college-level mathematics and communications courses (e.g., College Algebra, Trigonometry, English, Speech) with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Preferred:
Bachelor's Degree.

EXPERIENCE:

Preferred:

Tutoring or teaching experience in a college or high school setting.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

* Comply with all Amarillo College, state, and local policies, procedures, rules, and regulations, including proper use and safeguarding of college property, equipment, and training materials.

* Participate in professional learning and development activities as required by state or local contractual agreements and Amarillo College policies.

* Complete all assigned tasks accurately, efficiently, and in a timely manner.

* Conduct oneself professionally and courteously with students, faculty, staff, visitors, and coworkers.

* Exhibit professionalism while assisting with the academic needs of students, ensuring a supportive and encouraging learning environment.

* Participate in and complete performance assessments, evaluations, or other review processes as assigned.

* Maintain CRLA (College Reading & Learning Association) training and documentation to remain in compliance with organizational standards.

* Interact effectively with all levels of Amarillo College personnel, community members, and management.

* Assist students in developing effective study strategies, learning skills, and academic problem-solving techniques.

* Perform other work-related duties as required.

Salary:

Amarillo College follows a lag pay strategy, with starting offers typically between the minimum and midpoint of the pay grade, rarely reaching the maximum to support long-term growth within each position.

Pay grade 10

Amarillo College Pay Grades(salary is determined by Human Resources based on education, work experience and internal comparisons).

Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to travel between offices and buildings, and requires the ability to lift, carry, push, pull and/or maneuver office supplies as needed.

Working Conditions:

Must be willing to work a flexible schedule (days, nights, weekends, holidays, and varying events if necessary).

Work Environment:
This position operates in a professional office environment, routinely uses standard office equipment (i.e. computers, phones, copy and fax machines, filing cabinets) and is in a high traffic area with continual interruptions. Software commonly used includes Microsoft Office, Colleague, and various other educational applications. Work may also be performed outside of the office and with little to no supervision.
