This is an exciting time to work for Amarillo College! We are seeking our next Community Enrichment Teacher - English as a Second Language (ESL) - Moore County Campus who will be all-in on our mission and who is responsible for delivering high-quality English as a Second Language (ESL) instruction to adult learners at various proficiency levels. This position supports students in developing the language skills necessary to transition into High School Equivalency (HSE) preparation, postsecondary education, or workforce training programs.
Qualifications
EDUCATION:
Required:
Bachelor's Degree.
Preferred:
Master's Degree in Education, TESOL, Applied Linguistics, or a related field.
EXPERIENCE:
Required:
Two (2) years of teaching, tutoring, or instructional experience.
Preferred:
Teaching experience with English language learners at the secondary or postsecondary level; and experience with Blackboard or similar learning management systems; and curriculum development experience, especially for hybrid/online instruction; and familiarity with integrated education models (e.g., I-BEST); and, experience working with diverse adult learners.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
* Teach Community Enrichment ESL courses in listening, speaking, reading, writing, grammar, and communication skills across a variety of instructional modalities, including in-person, online, hybrid, and technology-supported formats.
* Design and implement engaging lesson plans aligned with English language development goals, High School Equivalency (HSE) preparation, workforce readiness, TSI support, and college transition pathways.
* Develop and adapt instructional materials and assessments to support diverse learning styles and promote student persistence, engagement, and language acquisition.
* Deliver assigned instructional responsibilities in ESL courses, including lesson planning and classroom or online instruction, in alignment with the established master course curriculum.
* Ensure all lessons follow the approved departmentalized pacing guide and, once available, are selected from the lesson plan bank unless otherwise approved. (
Note:
The lesson plan bank is currently in development and expected to be completed by Spring 2026.)
* Conduct regular assessments of student progress and provide timely, specific, and constructive feedback to guide academic growth.
* Maintain accurate and timely records of student attendance, performance, and outcomes in compliance with program and institutional policies.
* Hold regular office hours and provide individualized academic and transitional support for ESL students pursuing further education or career goals.
* Collaborate with part-time instructors and program staff on curriculum planning, student support strategies, and instructional improvement.
* Promote student transition into Amarillo College programs by incorporating pathway planning and college-readiness into course content.
* Assist students in navigating college systems such as advising, registration, support services, and student success initiatives to ensure a smooth transition into postsecondary education or training.
* Perform other duties as required.

* Expertise in English as a Second Language (ESL) instruction, with a strong understanding of adult learning theory and second language acquisition.
* Proficiency in both traditional and digital instructional strategies, including the effective use of learning management systems and technology-enhanced tools.
* Ability to teach effectively across multiple instructional formats, including in-person, online, hybrid, and technology-supported environments.
