Scale, Access, and Impact

These opportunities are unique because of the scale of the regional cattle industry and our program’s close integration with industry and research partners. VERO is located in the Texas Panhandle, at the center of one of the world’s largest cattle-producing regions. Within a 2-hour drive of Canyon, TX, there are:

  • Cattle production systems contributing more than $20 billion annually to the regional economy providing an unparalleled platform for large-scale, real-world research
  • More than 7 million fed cattle produced annually (~25% of U.S. beef supply)
  • Over 600,000 lactating dairy cows in a network of state-of-the-art dairies (3rd largest U.S. milkshed)
  • Millions of young calves feeding into these systems every year

The VERO Research Program is built on active collaboration with industry stakeholders and with research partners across the Texas A&M System, including Texas A&M University, West Texas A&M University, Agri Life Research, and the Texas Veterinary Medical Diagnostic Laboratory. Together, our research is focused on preventing and mitigating infectious diseases, improving production efficiency, enhancing food safety, and advancing antimicrobial stewardship.

The Texas A&M System has invested over $160 million since 2018 in facilities and programs in Canyon, enabling rapid growth of the VERO Research Program and its partners, and providing state-of-the-art infrastructure with unprecedented access to the largest concentration of commercial cattle production in the country.

What We Are Building

Our new team members will:

  • Be a key partner in our coordinated, collaborative research program

A defining feature of VERO is a strong commitment to team-based science, where faculty work in partnership across disciplines to address complex problems and achieve impact at a scale not possible individually.

Please share this announcement broadly and encourage qualified candidates to apply.
