Job Title
Work under the direction of the teacher of the deaf to enable students to learn communication skills and help them to grow mentally, physically and emotionally.
QualificationsMinimum
Education/Certification:
- Two years of study at an institution of higher learning OR
- An associates (or higher) degree OR
- Meet the rigorous standard of quality required by the district
Special Knowledge/
Skills:
- Strong communication, public relations, organizational and interpersonal skills
- Effective verbal and written communications skills
- Ability to follow written and/or oral directions, interpret policy and exercise good judgement
- Work effectively and harmoniously with students, parents and school personnel
- Ability to instruct small groups
- Ability to use the communication system that is required for the student(s)
Work Conditions:
- Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office/educational equipment including personal computer, tablets, Smart Board, etc.
- Posture: Prolonged sitting, standing and walking; bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting
- Motion: Prolonged walking, repetitive hand motions
- Lifting: Lifting and carrying (less than 60 pounds)
- Environment: Work inside and outside (exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather); exposure to noise; exposure to biological hazards (bacteria, communicable diseases), work with frequent interruptions in a variety of educational settings and maintain professional demeanor under stress
- Travel: Some in district travel
- Regular attendance is an essential function.
Minimum Experience:
Experience working with students and parents- preferred. This experience may be working in church-related schools, day camps, youth groups, private schools, licensed day-care centers or similar experiences.
