Part-Time Substation Training Instructor
Our client, a leading organization in the energy sector, is seeking a Part-Time Substation Training Instructor to deliver hands-on, classroom-based training for substation apprentices. This role is ideal for a seasoned or retired Journeyman Substation Substation Electrician who is passionate about mentoring the next generation of skilled professionals.
You will lead multi-week training sessions throughout the year, using an established curriculum while contributing to occasional updates and improvements. This is a highly impactful role supporting workforce development in a collaborative environment.
Responsibilities- Deliver in-person substation training to apprentice-level learners during scheduled multi-week sessions
- Facilitate classroom instruction and hands-on learning activities
- Prepare instructional materials and review curriculum in advance of training sessions
- Collaborate with co-instructors, subject matter experts, and internal stakeholders
- Support minor updates and enhancements to existing training materials
- Assist with training evaluations and performance measurement
- Occasionally visit substations or training labs for hands-on instruction
- Maintain a safe training environment and adhere to all safety protocols
- Journeyman Substation Electrician certification (or equivalent)
- Minimum 4–5 years of hands-on substation experience
- Strong knowledge of substation equipment (breakers, relays, mechanical and electrical systems)
- Proven ability to deliver instruction or train others effectively
- Strong verbal communication and classroom management skills
- Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, email, spreadsheets)
- Prior experience in training, teaching, or mentoring roles
- Experience with curriculum development or revision
- Extensive field experience in substation operations or construction
- Familiarity with multimedia tools or training technologies
- Collaborative, team-oriented environment with support from instructors and SMEs
- Combination of classroom instruction and occasional field exposure
- Required PPE for site visits may include:
- Hard hat
- Safety glasses
- Gloves
- FR clothing
- Steel/composite toe boots
