POSITION OVERVIEW

Discovery Center Collective (DCC) includes two interactive, recreational learning spaces in Amarillo, TX:
Don Harrington Discovery Center and Wildcat Bluff Discovery Center. The Discovery Center Collective sparks curiosity, inspires lifelong learning through play and empowers individuals to engage confidently with the world. The role of an Education Team Member is pivotal in enabling the Discovery Center Collective to fulfill the goal of creating moments of discovery that illuminate the intricacies of our world for all members of the community.

Our innovative programs stimulate curiosity, inspire lifelong learning through interactive experiences, and empower individuals to confidently engage with the world around them. This position facilitates public and school programs for learners of all ages.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Educate learners of all ages by facilitating engaging floor demonstrations and interactive science activities, catering to diverse age groups and backgrounds.
  • Foster a positive attitude and enthusiastic approach in learners, ensuring a vibrant and engaging educational experience.
  • Deliver engaging science labs, live astronomy programs, and live science shows, tailoring the content for audiences of different age demographics.
  • Guarantee a high-quality exhibit experience for every visitor, regardless of age, engaging thoughtfully in order to enhance their understanding and excitement.
  • Manage hands-on science activity stations during events, ensuring interactive and educational experiences for all participants.
  • Assist and support special events, camps, birthday parties, and facility rentals by supporting setup, cleanup, and guest coordination. Manage activity stations, troubleshoot issues, and ensure a positive and enjoyable experience for all participants.
  • Set up and maintain public exhibit and program areas, ensuring safety, cleanliness, and functionality at all times.
  • Collaborate with the animal team to execute engaging animal programs as well as promote an understanding and respect for wildlife.
  • Present educational programming during general operating hours, weekends, evenings, and special events at varying locations when required.
  • Actively participate in front desk operations as needed.
  • Collaborate effectively with other team members, embracing a positive attitude and demonstrating flexibility to perform tasks as directed.
  • Stay up-to-date on informal education and cultural trends for audiences of all ages.
  • Maintain clean and organized work areas.
  • Preparation for labs and demonstrations ahead of time.
  • Attend all staff training sessions, embodying a commitment to continuous learning and professional growth.
  • Fulfill other departmental duties as required to enhance the visitor experience and uphold educational standards.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
  • Wholeheartedly support the DHDC mission to inspire and excite individuals of all ages visiting the Discovery Center Collective.
  • Possess a positive attitude, demonstrating enthusiasm, patience, and adaptability in all interactions.
  • Hold a High School Diploma.
  • Enjoy working with diverse age groups in an educational setting, tailoring communication and activities to engage learners effectively.
  • Exhibit a genuine love for science and a passion for sharing knowledge with others.
  • Ability to work within a high-energy, collaborative team environment.
  • Ability to regularly lift 50 pounds, ensuring active participation in hands-on activities and exhibit setup.
COMPENSATION

Part-time, 20-25 hours per week, non-exempt. Pay range is $12-14 hourly with a yearly review for increases. Salary commensurate with experience. Some organizational benefits included, like free DCC membership, discounts on gift shops, camps, and programs, and other benefits.
