The School of Veterinary Medicine (SVM) at Texas Tech University (TTU) invites applications for a full-time, 12-month, tenure-track or professor of practice faculty position in Food Animal Practice at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor, with rank and appointment type commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The SVM is committed to educating practice-ready veterinarians who serve rural and regional communities. Faculty in Food Animal Practice play a critical role in preparing students for careers in livestock production medicine, rural mixed-animal practice, food animal veterinary service, and agricultural consulting. The successful candidate may come from academic, specialty, industry, government, military, or private practice backgrounds and will join a collaborative faculty dedicated to student-centered teaching, applied clinical training, scholarly activity, and engagement with the livestock industries of Texas and surrounding regions.

Major/Essential Functions

In line with TTU’s strategic priorities to engage and empower a dynamic student body, enable innovative research and creative activities, and transform lives and communities through outreach and engaged scholarship, applicants should have experience working with a breadth of student populations at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels within individual or across the areas of teaching, research/creative activity, and service.

Responsibilities
  • Work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and external veterinary partners to support the mission of the School of Veterinary Medicine to educate practice-ready veterinarians and strengthen the rural and regional veterinary workforce of Texas and surrounding regions;
  • Contribute to the teaching mission of the School—primarily in food animal medicine, surgery, herd health, production medicine, and rural mixed-animal practice with an emphasis on practical clinical decision-making relevant to contemporary veterinary practice, including:
    • delivering didactic lectures within the pre-clinical veterinary curriculum;
    • developing and facilitating hands-on laboratory instruction and clinical skills training;
    • contributing to case-based, problem-oriented clinical presentation and integrated clinical reasoning courses;
    • providing clinical instruction and mentorship of veterinary students during clinical skills laboratories, field-based teaching activities, and clinical year rotations conducted through partner veterinary practices;
    • participating in curriculum development, course coordination, and assessment of student learning in alignment with the competency-based veterinary education framework utilized by the SVM;
    • fostering development of clinical reasoning, professional communication, veterinary service delivery, and practice-ready skills relevant to food animal and mixed-animal veterinary practice
  • Contribute to the scholarship activities of the School through:
    • participation in collaborative clinical, applied, or educational scholarship programs relevant to food-animal medicine, production agriculture, rural veterinary practice, or veterinary education;
    • development and maintenance of scholarly activities appropriate to appointment type and professional background;
    • participation in collaborative scholarship and, as appropriate to appointment type, efforts to secure extramural funding and foster opportunities that support scholarship;
    • dissemination of scholarly activity through publications, presentations, continuing education (CE) programs, extension activities, and other forms of professional communication;
