Overview

This position will be responsible for maintenance and construction activities around high voltage (up to 345 kV) substations and transmission lines. Extensive travel throughout the United States is required. The ideal candidate has a "safety first" attitude and a commitment to doing the job right the first time.

Responsibilities
  • Work in and around wind turbines.
  • Professionally interact with customers and coworkers on a daily basis.
  • Perform maintenance and construction on electrical collection systems, including underground cable faults, pad‑mount transformers, switchgears, T‑Bodies, splices, and wind turbine wiring up to 34.5 kV.
  • Attend safety meetings and complete safety paperwork daily.
  • Demonstrate safety as a top priority.
  • Complete daily or weekly inventory of materials.
  • Diagnose and fix problems that could cause the electrical system to shut down unexpectedly or operate improperly.
  • Troubleshoot and test electrical components and systems.
  • Service underground transmission systems, substations, or fiber‑optic sensing and control systems.
  • Replace worn or malfunctioning components.
Qualifications

Education and Work Experience Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in the electrical industry, specifically in preventative maintenance or an electrical degree/certificate, and 1 year of experience.
  • Valid driver’s license.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Required:

  • Take reasonable care of your own and others’ health and safety, following Wanzek’s Zero Injury principles.
  • Basic computer operation skills and familiarity with internet‑based program navigation.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and understand basic drawings and schematics.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow directions with precise execution.
  • Experience using basic power tools.
  • Ability to demonstrate basic industrial safety practices/protocols, including LOTO.
  • Able to work in demanding physical and inclement weather conditions.
  • Comfort working remotely as part of a team with limited supervisory interaction.
  • Effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, customers, and the public.
  • Perform basic arithmetic (add, subtract, multiply, divide) in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Operate a manlift, forklift, and skid steer.
  • Perform line locates, splice cable, perform TTR testing, and swap out pad‑mount transformers.
  • Conduct rigging and signaling to crane operators.
  • Accurately manage material supplies.
  • Perform VLF and megger testing, infrared scanning, fault locating, bushing exchanges, and battery replacements.
  • Create concise reports related to testing performed.
  • Implement LOTO and switching plans, providing well‑thought‑out project planning.
  • Interact effectively with clients.
  • Communicate effectively with others.
