Position: Piping Design Engineer, Level III Oak Ridge, TN Posted today

Akima Infrastructure Services, LLC (AIS) is recruiting professional piping engineers to support the Department of Energy at Y‑12 National Security Complex in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, and the Pantex Plant in Amarillo, Texas. Successful candidates will be employed by AIS and directed on a day‑to‑day basis by Y‑12 staff.

Responsibilities
  • Provide CNS Mission Engineering with full time piping design engineering for facility and production area activities in Cat 2 and Cat 3 facilities.
  • Provide design output documentation to support minor facility modifications, including drawings, engineering instructions, data sheets, equipment specifications, equivalency evaluations, calculations, etc.
  • Develop designs in accordance with ASME B31.3 and ASME B31.1.
  • Collaborate with other engineering disciplines and plant organizations to produce timely design output.
  • Possess experience in an NRC or DOE regulated environment (desirable).
  • Understand Conduct of Engineering, Conduct of Operations and Conduct of Maintenance for nuclear regulated facilities.
  • Demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills and interface effectively with various clients, production and support organizations, management and hourly wage employees.
  • Willing to perform field walk‑downs and work in a production environment.
Qualifications
  • ABET accredited BS degree in a relevant engineering discipline with 10+ years of relevant professional experience, or MS degree with 10+ years of relevant experience. Q clearance or ability to obtain one required.
  • Pre‑employment drug screen for external applicants.
  • Medical exam(s) may be required.
  • Position may require obtaining and maintaining DOE clearance. This position would be identified as a Workplace Substance Abuse (WSAP) testing designated position and would require participation in an ongoing random drug testing program in addition to the pre‑employment drug screen.
