What You'll Do

As a Cognizant System Engineer/Technical Authority (CSE/TA) for assigned structural systems, you will coordinate configuration management activities, assess system health and performance, and provide overall technical responsibility for facility structural operability and maintenance activities. You will work with the Configuration Management program for the assigned systems to prepare configuration control/design change packages for tasks, evaluate the impact of proposed changes and/or modifications to approved safety authorization bases for facilities, and perform troubleshooting and improvement activities.

You’ll be tasked with resolving technical system and facility issues in cooperation with other related disciplines. The structural CSE will provide self-performed technical solutions to a wide range of difficult problems through the application of established engineering practices, codes and standards. Responsibilities will include, but not be limited to building evaluations and modifications, seismic analyses and rehab, and machine installations.

The structural CSE should be proficient with developing structural drawings (plans, sections and details) for various materials of construction (concrete, steel, masonry, cold-formed steel, timber), structural calculations, equipment anchorage, report preparation, drafting (or oversight of drafting), and preparation of construction specifications (generally in the form of general notes on the drawings).

Minimum

Job Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science in Civil/Structural Engineering from an Accreditation Commission (EAC) Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) accredited program in the United States or designated equivalents from Canada or Mexico, the Washington Accord, or the list of substantially equivalent as documented by ABET with a minimum 3.0/4.0 cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA)
  • OR a Master’s degree in Civil/Structural Engineering discipline with a minimum 3.3/4.0 cumulative GPA
  • OR a PhD in Civil/Structural Engineering discipline with a minimum 3.5/4.0 cumulative GPA
  • There is a minimum GPA requirement up to 4 years post-graduation at time of offer and confirmed by transcript
  • Beyond four years from graduation, engineering experience will supersede GPA as a requirement for hire.
Department of Energy (DOE) Order 426.2A Requirements
  • In addition to the above requirements, the applicant must also meet the requirements of DOE O 426.2A (i.e., Baccalaureate in engineering or related science, 2 years job-related and at least 1 year nuclear experience, or a DOE O 426.2A alternative). DOE O 426.2A experience requirements can be satisfied following employment. In the interim, newly hired personnel will not be assigned duties that could impact the safety basis of nuclear facilities.

  • Five or more years of experience
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license
  • Use and application of technical standards, principles, theories, concepts, and techniques
  • Understanding of Conduct of Engineering, Conduct of Operations, and Conduct of Maintenance for facilities operating within a nuclear regulated environment
  • Ability to evaluate and provide feedback on new and proposed revisions to technical operating procedures, design drawings and requirements, and facility systems, structures, and components
  • Computer-aided design (CAD) or other 3D modeling experience
  • Structural Modeling experience with STAAD Pro
  • Must be able to make informed decisions and support those decisions to peers and senior management
