What You'll Do

As a first level manager you will provide leadership, technical direction, and oversight to War Reserve (WR) Tester Engineers, technical support personnel, and potentially subcontract employees. You will be responsible for maintaining safe working conditions and safety awareness, establishing goals, and employee performance management. The WR Tester Engineering Manager will lead and manage activities for Engineering in a manner that enables employee engagement.

This includes leading engineering resources for problem solving and issue resolution to support the mission at Pantex and advising management of staffing needs necessary to address both forecast and emerging workload. In addition, you will manage a dedicated group of WR Tester Engineers who function as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) on WR test equipment. Frequent contact with external and internal customers is required.

Duties

Demonstrated knowledge of, and the ability to manage, using project management techniques and cost estimating to meet reliability, operability, cost, schedule and quality expectations; knowledge of engineering principles and their application to risk analysis, qualitative risk assessment, facilities and systems operation, and manufacturing processes and systems; working knowledge of engineering principles and standard industry operations. Other duties are:

  • Demonstrated ability to manage engineers and administrative personnel
  • Advanced knowledge of WR Tester Engineering processes and procedures
  • Demonstrated ability to lead engineering evaluations of WR test equipment
  • Ability to lead difficult and complex projects
  • Ability to develop executable plans
  • Skills for reporting on determined corrective and improvement actions
  • Knowledgeable in budgeting, staffing, and financial performance
  • Ability to maintain successful interactions with equivalent-level and subordinate managers concerning matters of significance to the Company
  • Ability to clearly and effectively communicate through oral and written word
Minimum

Job Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering/science discipline with a minimum 7 years of relevant experience
DOE Order 426.2A Requirements
  • In addition to the above requirements, the applicant must also meet the requirements of DOE O 426.2A (i.e., Baccalaureate in engineering or related science and 4 years nuclear experience, or a DOE O 426.2A alternative). DOE O 426.2A experience requirements can be satisfied following employment. In the interim, newly hired personnel will not be assigned duties that could impact the safety basis of nuclear facilities.

Preferred

Job Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field from an Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) accredited program in the United States or designated equivalents thru ABET Mutual Recognition Agreements (MRA)
  • OR a Bachelor's degree in science
  • Application of Conduct of Engineering principles, Nuclear Quality Assurance-1 requirements commensurate with performing work in nuclear facilities
  • Experience in a Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) or DOE regulated environment
  • Familiarity with the applicable national consensus codes, standards, and DOE requirements/guidelines used in the technical management of building systems and infrastructure for nuclear facilities
  • Demonstrated skill in effective planning, writing, organization, communication, schedule compliance, and management of technical issues
