Data Center Engineer – Pantex Plant

Responsibilities
  • Install, configure, and troubleshoot servers, networking equipment, and related hardware components, including rack space management and cabling (copper and fiber).
  • Monitor and maintain critical data center infrastructure including power (UPS, generators), cooling (HVAC), and environmental controls to ensure optimal performance and minimize downtime.
  • Conduct regular audits of IT and data center assets for accuracy and compliance.
  • Utilize dc Track (and other DCIM tools) for asset tracking, capacity planning, and real‑time monitoring of power consumption, heat dissipation, and space utilization.
  • Maintain accurate asset, power, and rack information within dc Track.
  • Generate reports and dashboards from dc Track to analyze KPIs, identify trends, and support decision‑making about infrastructure and capacity.
  • Use dc Track’s visualization tools to trace end‑to‑end power and data circuits, understand connectivity, and identify potential issues.
  • Assist in data center relocation, consolidation, or new build projects, using dc Track for planning and impact assessment.
  • Diagnose and resolve hardware and software issues efficiently to minimize service disruption.
  • Respond to abnormal facility conditions, escalating critical issues to appropriate teams or vendors.
  • Develop, implement, and enforce Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Emergency Response Procedures (ERPs).
  • Ensure compliance with industry regulations and security protocols.
  • Support data center projects such as equipment upgrades, new installations, and decommissioning.
  • Coordinate with vendors for equipment procurement, maintenance, and support services.
Minimum

Job Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or science discipline with a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience (typically 6–10 years).
  • OR Master’s degree in engineering or science with a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience.
  • OR Applicants without a bachelor’s degree may be considered based on a combination of at least 12 years of completed education and/or relevant experience.
  • Q clearance required; candidates must be able to obtain and maintain it.
Preferred

Job Requirements
  • Strong working knowledge of data center infrastructure, including servers, networking equipment, power distribution, and cooling systems.
  • Proficiency with DCIM tools, specifically dc Track, for asset management, capacity planning, and operational monitoring.
  • Familiarity with operating systems (Linux/Windows) and networking concepts.
  • Experience with IT Service Management platforms such as Service Now for managing work orders and incidents.
Key Competencies
  • Problem‑solving and diagnostic skills to address complex technical and operational challenges quickly.
  • Attention to detail for monitoring systems, managing assets, and maintaining documentation.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for technical documentation, reporting, and collaboration.
  • Project management ability to coordinate and contribute to data center projects.
  • Adaptability, eagerness to learn new technologies and evolving best practices.
Security and Clearance
  • Requires a DOE Q clearance; all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of current clearance status.
  • Potential entry into Materials Access Areas (MAA) and participation in the Human Reliability Program (HRP). HRP requires completion of a counterintelligence‑scope polygraph in accordance with 10 CFR 709.
