PAY/RANGE: $25.00 PER HOUR
SUMMARY
Under supervision, the Electrical Inspector operates as a team member, who performs, coordinates, and monitors the workflow of their assigned Electrical Inspections. The Electrical Inspector, in efforts with the Building Safety team, perform a variety of inspections of buildings and properties to ensure compliance with (inclusive of however not limited to) the City of Amarillo Municipal Code, adopted National Electrical codes, and the International Code Council (ICC) codes.
No supervision of others.
ESSENTIAL RESPNSIBILITIES
* The Electrical Inspector, under supervision, coordinates, and aids in administering established procedures with the Building Safety Team.
* While practicing workplace and inspection safety requirements, as set forth by the City of Amarillo, performs inspections on residential and commercial buildings, mobile homes, signs, and various energized structures.
* Electrical Inspectors, while fulfilling their duties and may need to assist other staff as needed.
* Perform consistent positive customer service.
* Monitors the progress of assigned permitted projects for coordination, quality control of document review, and inspection services by making on-site inspections of assigned projects.
* May need to inspect substandard structures and properties, prepare comprehensive reports, provide documentation, and may assist in preparing reports for presentation to Condemnation Appeals Commission for dangerous structure/condemnation procedures, coordinate with interoffice supervisors as assigned for other agencies and contractors, and monitor assigned condemnation and demolition process.
* Develop an understanding of assigned investigations and interpretations of zoning violations as necessary. May be required to assist with filing suits, prepare cases, and testify in Municipal Court.
* Collaborates with other inspection teams, departments, and agencies as required to ensure compliance with adopted codes.
* Provides documentation of inspections, research property and inspection history.
* Assists with responses to inquiries with builders, engineers, contractors, architects, and the public concerning submittal requirements of code and permit regulations.
* Performs inspections to investigating complaints to ensure compliance to the City of Amarillo Municipal Code.
* Performs field inspections for compliance with City Ordinances as needed.
* Responsible for review of construction documents to verify compliance with applicable City Ordinances.
* Provides information to the public regarding the requirements and policies of the City.
* Performs other job-related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
* Requires a High School Diploma or its equivalent.
* Must possess a TDLR Electrical Journeyman License.
* Must have documentation and be capable to take the TDLR Master Electrical Licensure test when applicable.
* Six (6) years' experience in the electrical industry.
* Three (3) years' experience with high public contact is desired.
* Building construction or inspection experience sufficient to comprehend building plans and maps and be able to translate those to actual site conditions.
* Experience with codes and knowledge of construction standards.
* Must obtain both the ICC Electrical Residential Inspector (E1), and the ICC International Residential Energy Conservation Code certifications within one (1) year of employment.
* Bilingual in Spanish preferred.
* Valid Texas Driver's License required or be able to obtain within 30 days of employment.
KNOWLEDGE,
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
* Must have reading, writing and verbal communication skills sufficient to quickly comprehend and effectively communicate technical requirements to others.
* Ability to use computers, various computer applications, telephone, copiers, fax machine and other common office equipment.
* Must be able to understand and review electrical plans (industrial, commercial, and residential).
* Able to use a measuring tape, level, ladder, various drafting and construction tools, maps, aerial photos, GIS, etc.
* Written reference abilities for Code, standards, and references.
* Consistent, positive, people and customer service skills
