Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated Substation Commissioning Engineer to join our Amarillo office. This role involves working in both greenfield and brownfield substations at various stages of energization. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of substation protection and controls and their implementation, be familiar with relay logic and testing, and be capable of comprehending three-phase systems. You will be responsible for the final sign-off before energization of substations and equipment.

Travel to various job sites within Texas, the Oklahoma panhandle, and southeastern New Mexico is required, with trips typically not exceeding two weeks.

Responsibilities

+ Work in greenfield and brownfield substations during various stages of energization.

+ Implement substation protection and controls.

+ Understand and apply relay logic and perform testing.

+ Ensure thorough understanding of three-phase systems.

+ Conduct final sign-off before energization of substations and equipment.

+ Travel for short periods to job sites located in Texas, Oklahoma panhandle, and southeastern New Mexico.

Essential Skills

+ 5 years of field experience in substation protection and controls testing.

+ Developing relay settings.

+ Substation design.

+ Electrical engineering degree or another engineering discipline with a PE in power.

Additional

Skills & Qualifications

+ Relay technicians with 15 years of field experience may be considered in lieu of an Electrical Engineering degree.

+ Other related degrees may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

+

Experience with relay equipment, SCADA, and high voltage systems.

+ Proficiency in commissioning, relay protection and control, and switch gear.

Work Environment

The role involves working in various substation environments, requiring travel to job sites in Texas, the Oklahoma panhandle, and southeastern New Mexico. The position offers opportunities for career advancement to roles such as Project Manager, Field Service Manager, and Operations Manager. Candidates are preferred to live in the service area, but relocation support or living outside the area may be considered for exceptional candidates.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Amarillo, TX.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $55.00 - $100.00/hr.
