Overview
This position is based in Amarillo, TX, 79101, on a hybrid (3 days per week in office) work schedule. It is a boiler engineer role in the Performance Optimization organization covering coal and gas fired boilers, Heat Recovery Steam Generators, and balance of plant equipment. Boiler specialists perform boiler inspections, coordinate repairs, conduct combustion tuning, and support performance optimization. The role also functions as a project manager and boiler subject matter expert.
Position Summary — Entry Level Engineer
Base Salary Range $70,000 - $88,667 plus 8% Annual Incentive Plan. This entry level position is designed to develop technical expertise in a specific area. Work involves conventional plans, investigations, surveys, structures or equipment with relatively few complex features. Activities are of limited scope requiring knowledge of principles and techniques commonly employed in the area. May lead small to medium, non-critical projects and/or provide field oversight of critical projects under direction of a higher-level engineer or supervisor.
Work is reviewed for technical judgment, adequacy and accuracy. May participate in portions of larger projects as proficiency grows. Works under supervision and follows established procedures. May supervise or coordinate interns, drafters, craft personnel, technicians and/or others.
Essential Responsibilities — Entry Level
- Uses and applies technical standards, principles, theories, concepts, and techniques to perform activities/assignments of limited scope.
- Supports the development of technical documentation (designs, testing, calculations, reports, standards, etc.). Utilizes and may assist with procedures.
- Provides ongoing technical support for project activities within areas such as Operations, Maintenance, Testing/diagnostics, Regulatory, etc. May provide field engineering oversight for commissioning, testing, inspections, etc. under direct supervision.
- Coordinates/leads projects or portions of projects (research, design, equipment selection, procurement support, installation and commissioning) under the direction of a higher-level engineer or supervisor.
- Supports bid/evaluation processes by performing basic analysis and calculations on existing documentation; communicates with other business areas following appropriate processes.
- Exchanges information effectively across internal teams and with outside customers/vendors.
- May coordinate the work of interns, drafters, technicians, and/or others; provides guidance and mentoring to less experienced engineers. Maintains ongoing self-development of technical skills.
- May perform activities such as budgeting, estimating, forecasting, and work order management in support of engineering projects.
Minimum Requirements — Entry Level
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from ABET accredited curriculum (or recognized equivalency)
- 0+ years relevant engineering experience
- Ability to demonstrate the unique technical skills and core competencies for this engineering level
- EIT/FE preferred
Preferred Qualifications — Entry Level
- Power Plant engineering experience
- Mechanical, Chemical, Civil, or Industrial Engineering Degree
Position Summary — Staff Level Engineer
Base Salary Range $81,800 - $106,267 Plus 8% Annual Incentive Plan. Under general direction, demonstrates complete understanding and wide application of engineering principles. Independently determines and develops approaches to solutions. May lead small-to-medium non-critical projects or critical projects under direction. May provide work direction to other professionals and/or staff. Represents the organization in solving technical issues on specific projects. Frequent inter-organizational and outside customer contact.
Demonstrates broad knowledge of precedents in the specialty area and related disciplines.
