Environmental Compliance, Field/Service Technician
AECOM is seeking a Environmental Technician for our Borger, Texas field office. This field-based role supports environmental site assessment, investigation, and remediation activities by conducting inspection, sampling, and contractor oversight tasks. This position works closely with the Field Operations Lead to execute projects safely and efficiently, with a strong emphasis on data quality and regulatory compliance.
The Environmental Technician supports field execution by collaborating with project teams and promoting a strong safety culture. Candidates should demonstrate adaptability, a team-oriented mindset, and the ability to work independently in the field while contributing effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
Responsibilities- Conduct routine fieldwork including sampling of environmental media (soil, groundwater, surface water, soil vapor, and air), utilizing standard field equipment and instruments for data collection and monitoring such as photoionization detectors (PID), soil-groundwater interface probes, and multiparameter water quality meters.
- Perform environmental site assessments/inspections and basic calculations related to site investigation and remediation activities.
- Manage field sample chain-of-custody documentation, packaging, and shipping to laboratories.
- Perform operation and maintenance on remediation systems.
- Oversee contractor field tasks related to site investigation and remediation activities.
- Support coordination of field activities, including utility locating, surveying, and oversight of investigation and remediation projects under the direction and guidance of project managers.
- Document field activities accurately and maintain detailed, organized field notes in accordance with project requirements.
- Communicate effectively with project managers and team members to provide timely updates on field progress and safety observations.
- Build experience toward an Associate Safety Professional (ASP) certification.
- High School diploma and a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience or a demonstrated equivalency of education and experience.
- A valid driver’s license. A motor vehicle records check will be conducted.
- Successful completion of a drug assessment and background check.
- US Citizen or US Permanent Resident. Sponsorship not available for this role.
- Completion of 40‑hour OSHA HAZWOPER training or annual refresher class, 30‑hour OSHA Supervisor training, First Aid/CPR training, and AECOM specific training.
- Obtaining the Safety Trained Supervisor Construction (STSC) and Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) certifications.
- Proficiency with basic computer programs: MS Word and MS Excel.
- Permanently based at the AECOM Borger Field Office, requiring residence within a 60‑mile commuting radius of the Borger, TX facility.
- Experience managing and tracking hazardous and non‑hazardous waste for offsite transport and disposal.
- Experience working at an active refinery site.
- Knowledge of environmental sampling methods and experience using field equipment (GPS, PID, 4‑gas meter, digital data collection, etc.).
- Experience performing independent field work and providing oversight of contractor field activities.
- Strong work ethic and problem‑solving skills, able to function independently while conducting field work.
- Demonstrated professional responsibility and awareness of accepted standards of professional behavior.
- Proficient technical writing skills and ability to express oneself orally in project reviews among internal staff.
