Transportation Engineer III-V (Amarillo Transportation Operations) – (2601294)
TxDOT's Amarillo District is hiring a Transportation Engineer III-V to work in our Transportation Operations Office. The position involves advanced transportation engineering work in areas such as planning, project development, construction, and traffic operations.
Essential Duties- Perform data collection, evaluation, analysis, studies, inspections, forecasts, assessments, and plan development.
- Assist with design, computer operations and plan preparation.
- Coordinate traffic engineering studies and traffic counts.
- Design, install, maintain and repair traffic management computer/communication/video systems and/or traffic signals, radios, and railroad crossing equipment.
- Make presentations and represent TxDOT.
- Serve as lead worker on related tasks.
- Oversee or perform traffic engineering studies to recommend solutions for high‑accident locations, warrant traffic signals and speed zones, and determine capacity and channelization of highways.
- Responsible for traffic engineering operations.
- Review traffic engineering studies, warranting of traffic signals and speed zones.
- Conduct final inspections on completed construction projects (IV).
- Oversee and develop plans for complex projects, manage resource assignments, schedules, scope, communication, quality, and procurement (V).
Bachelor's Degree in engineering or related science. Higher degrees accepted by TX PELS.
Experience6 years engineering, transportation engineering, or related engineering experience. Graduate‑level education may be substituted on a year‑per‑year basis.
Licenses & Certifications- Valid driver’s license.
- Licensed Professional Engineer or eligibility to obtain one within six months.
- Open Water Diver certification (for underwater bridge inspections).
- Bridge Safety Inspection certification (NICET Level III or IV) within one year of hire for bridge inspections.
- Knowledge of government funding programs, methods and procedures.
- Knowledge of applicable governmental laws, rules and regulations related to safeguarding information and IT systems.
- Knowledge of traffic management systems operations, traffic signal systems design, testing and maintenance.
- Knowledge of engineering workstations and applications.
- Knowledge of Critical Path Method for project management.
- Operating light and heavy highway equipment.
- Maintaining safe and effective working relationships.
- Proficient in performing calculations for material and labor estimates, expenses, technical survey data and engineering calculations.
- Expertise in electrical/electronic design procedures (V).
- Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions.
- Light work: lift up to 20 lbs, frequently lift or carry objects up to 10 lbs.
- Balancing, walking, standing, crouching on various surfaces.
- Talking and expressing ideas by spoken words.
This position requires a pre‑employment physical and requires a drug test. This is a Safety Impact position and will be subject to random drug testing.
