Facility Structural Engineer at PantexIntegral to Pantex’s vital mission of national nuclear security is the integrity and resilience of our facilities. As a Facility Structural Engineer and Cognizant System Engineer/Technical Authority (CSE/TA) for assigned structural systems, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring that the very foundations of our operations are robust and reliable. This isn't a typical design position. While your expertise in structural design is a critical asset, your day‑to‑day work centers on the enduring health and performance of our existing plant infrastructure, some of which are undergoing significant redesigns.
You'll be the go‑to technical expert, applying your deep understanding of civil and structural engineering principles to safeguard our operations and support the continuous evolution of our site.
- Be the Technical Authority:
As the CSE/TA for your assigned structural systems, you provide comprehensive technical oversight and accountability for their operability, safety, and maintenance throughout their lifecycle. This includes assessing system health and performance, performing annual in‑service inspections, and developing and implementing preventive measures to maintain structural integrity. - Ensure Design Excellence and Maintain Integrity:
Use your structural design experience to evaluate and interpret design changes and modifications, ensuring new projects and upgrades integrate seamlessly with existing infrastructure and uphold rigorous safety standards. - Develop Essential Technical Documentation and Specifications:
Create structural drawings—including plans, sections, and details—for concrete, steel, masonry, and cold‑formed steel; perform structural calculations; prepare reports; and draft or oversee drafting work, reviewing construction specifications. - Solve Complex Challenges:
Conduct detailed building evaluations and seismic analyses for existing structures, ensuring modifications meet DOE and industry code requirements, and devise innovative and practical solutions. - Hands‑On Engagement:
Conduct regular in‑service inspections, thoroughly examining facilities to confirm good condition and compliance, providing on‑ground insight for improvement opportunities. - Contribute to a Larger
Purpose:
Participate in projects focused on maintaining and enhancing current buildings and supporting complete plant redesign initiatives.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or science with a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience
- Master’s degree in engineering or science with no experience
- PhD in engineering or science with no experience
In addition to the above requirements, the applicant must also meet DOE O 426.2A: a baccalaureate in engineering or related science, 2 years job‑related experience, and at least 1 year nuclear experience or a DOE O 426.2A alternative. DOE O 426.2A experience can be satisfied after employment. During the interim, newly hired personnel will not be assigned duties that could impact the safety basis of nuclear facilities.

- Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an ABET‑accredited program in the United States or designated equivalents via ABET Mutual Recognition Agreements
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or science with a minimum 3.0/4.0 cumulative GPA
- Master’s degree in engineering or science with a minimum 3.3/4.0 cumulative GPA
- PhD in engineering or science with a minimum 3.5/4.0 cumulative GPA
- Minimum GPA requirement applies up to 4 years post‑graduation at time of offer and will be confirmed by transcript.
- Beyond four years from graduation, engineering experience supersedes GPA as a requirement for hire.
- Five or more years of relevant experience
- Professional Engineer (PE) license
