Position Description

Employees in this position are responsible for augmenting a supervising physician's data gathering abilities to reach decisions and institute patient care plans. Provides health care services to patients under direction and responsibility of a Physician.

Major/Essential Functions
  • Strong clinical assessment and diagnostic skills, with the ability to develop and implement evidence-based care plans.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to foster collaborative relationships with patients, families, and multidisciplinary team members.
  • Commitment to patient-centered, culturally competent care for women across the lifespan.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team-based model.
  • Proficiency with electronic health records (EHR) and documentation standards.
  • Interviews OB/GYN patients to obtain health history and performs a thorough physical exam.
  • Provides patient/family education related to health status.
  • Orders appropriate referrals to physicians, ancillary services and other resources (ie, dietitian, social services, dental care).
  • Presents appropriate patient problems to the attention of the physician, as needed. Documents patient charts in line with billing standards.
  • Develops clinical knowledge and skills through Continuing Education and reading professional literature.
  • Exercises discretion and maintains confidentiality in all matters relating to the department, its employees and patients.
  • Performs therapeutic procedures such as injections, immunizations, IUD insertion and removal, and endometrial biopsy. Wound care to manage infections.
Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree or higher in Nursing, Physician Assistant Studies, or Nurse-Midwifery from an accredited program. Nurse Practitioner (NP) with national certification in Women's Health or Family Practice (WHNP-BC, FNP-BC, or FNP-C), or Physician Assistant (PA-C) with certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA), or Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) with national certification from the American Midwifery Certification Board (AMCB).

Minimum of 1-2 years of clinical experience in women's health, obstetrics, gynecology, or related specialty preferred. Experience providing comprehensive reproductive and gynecologic care, including preventive screenings, contraception management, prenatal and postpartum care, and management of common GYN conditions. New graduates with strong women's health clinical rotations or experience will be considered.

Pay Statement

Required Qualifications

Graduation from a Physician Assistant's training program approved by the Council on Allied Health Education Accreditation of the American Medical Association. Current Physician Assistant license in the State of Texas or ability to transfer license to Texas. Certification as a Physician Assistant as evidenced by passing the examinations given by the National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants. OR Graduation from an accredited school of nursing as a nurse practitioner from an approved certification program recognized by Texas Board of Nursing.

Current R.N. license as approved by the Texas Board of Nursing or ability to transfer license to Texas. Certification as a Nurse Practitioner from an approved certification program as recognized by Texas Board of Nursing or ability to transfer certification to Texas.
