Position: Surgical Tech (Cert) / NW Surgery Center / FT / Days

Responsibilities

Northwest Texas Healthcare System (NWTHS) is a 495-bed system serving Amarillo and the surrounding region, offering a blend of traditional values and advanced medical technology.

Position Summary

A Surgical Tech (Certified) provides technical leadership in perioperative patient care under direct supervision of a Registered Nurse. The candidate assists with patient care, acts as a primary preceptor for students and techs, and supports continuous quality improvement initiatives.

Provision of Services
  • Assists the RN with implementation of a patient‑specific plan of care, performing tasks delegated by the RN based on patient condition and skill level.
  • Partially or fully scrubs simple, uncomplicated surgical cases as assigned.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and technical expertise in sterile processing and surgical equipment, instruments, and sequence for all applicable procedures.
  • Adapts current knowledge to learn and perform new procedures.
  • Maintains a safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff.

Eligibility, Experience and Licenses
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Completion of a surgical technologist program with certification required.
  • Two years surgical technology experience preferred.
  • Valid BLS certification within 30 days of hire; maintain certification throughout employment.
  • Prior practice as a surgical technologist in a healthcare facility before September 1, 2009, or federal service experience related to that service.
