The Patient Coordinator is responsible for performing a variety of customer service and patient care tasks to ensure a positive patient experience. This role involves documenting and organizing patient records, ensuring patients understand what to expect during and after their appointment, and maintaining compliance with HIPAA regulations.
Responsibilities- Greets and assists patients, customers, and visitors in person and over the phone.
- Performs patient registration in various systems.
- Answers all phone calls in a professional and courteous manner.
- Collects monies for time-of-service patient responsibility, if applicable.
- Verifies insurance coverage and obtains prior authorization, if needed.
- Conducts preliminary screening of patients prior to procedures, which may include collecting medical history.
- Transports patients to/from the exam room.
- Assists with patient transfer on/off the exam table.
- Provides patients with preliminary and post-procedure instructions.
- Assists in preparing the mobile unit for transport.
- Maintains a clean and organized work area and orders supplies as needed.
- Ensures accurate documentation of patient records in electronic systems and on paper.
- Schedules patient appointments and obtains insurance verification/authorization.
- Prepares medical records for physicians, patients, and customers.
- Delivers documentation and images to patients, physicians, or contracted customers.
- Performs all duties in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
- Completes other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent experience.
- CPR certification required for Mobile Radiology and Oncology; a plus for Fixed Radiology.
- Valid state driver’s license.
- Ability to work at multiple locations.
- Strong customer service, organizational, and multi-tasking skills.
- Basic knowledge of computer applications.
- Local travel may be required to support multiple sites.
- COVID-19 vaccination is or may be a condition of employment.
- All candidates must successfully complete a pre-employment background check and drug screen.
- Six months of customer service or related experience and/or training.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Bilingual Spanish language skills.
- More than 50% of the time: sit, stand, walk; repetitive movement of hands, arms, and legs; see, speak, and hear to communicate with patients.
- Less than 50% of the time: stoop, kneel, crawl; climb and balance; carry and lift (including moving non-ambulatory patients from a sitting or lying position for transfer or to the exam).
- May be exposed to outside weather conditions during patient transport on a mobile unit.
- May be exposed to a strong magnetic field or radioactive material.
- May be exposed to blood, body fluids, infectious diseases, and environmental hazards (e.g., noise, travel).
