ABOUT THE ROLE
Reporting to the Facility/Associate Manager, Repair Center Operations, the Hashboard Repair Technician II is a senior bench technician role responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and reworking hash boards used in bitcoin mining hardware, while also mentoring and providing technical leadership to Technician I staff. Working in a shop environment, this role receives hash boards and related components flagged for failure from Data Center Technicians and field operations, and serves as a go-to technical resource and trainer for the wider repair team.
The Hashboard Repair Technician II must be able to diagnose problems on malfunctioning hash boards down to the component level, perform micro-soldering and component-level rework, and determine whether a board can be repaired or must be scrapped, often on the most complex or escalated failures. This job entails extensive hands-on bench work, strong critical thinking to isolate root cause across complex circuit boards, and clear communication with co-workers, junior technicians, and leadership regarding failure trends, training needs, and repair outcomes.
Some of the key responsibilities you should expect are the following:
- Trains, mentors, and provides technical guidance to Hashboard Repair Technician I staff, including hands-on coaching in micro-soldering, diagnostics, and component-level repair technique.
- Leads by example on the bench, taking ownership of the most complex, escalated, or ambiguous repair cases and coaching junior technicians through similar cases as they arise.
- Reviews the work of junior technicians for quality and completeness, and provides constructive feedback to raise the skill level of the team.
- Helps develop and refine training materials, repair standards, and workflow procedures for the repair center, and supports onboarding of new technicians.
- Collaborates with the Manager, Repair Center Operations to optimize bench workflows, prioritize repair queues, and implement best practices across the team.
- Diagnoses, tests, and repairs hash boards, including chip-level, component-level, and trace-level failures, using critical thinking to isolate root cause rather than relying on board replacement alone.
- Performs micro-soldering and desoldering of BGA chips, hash chips, capacitors, resistors, inductors, and other small SMD components on hash boards.
- Diagnoses and repairs power supply units (PSUs) and control boards (CBs), including component-level troubleshooting and rework — strongly preferred skill set.
- Performs troubleshooting to the component level, utilizing schematics, assembly prints, mechanical part drawings, and electronic test equipment such as DMMs, oscilloscopes, function generators, power supplies, thermal cameras, and hashboard test benches.
- Tests and adjusts repaired hash boards, PSUs, and CBs to confirm they meet performance and hashrate specifications before return to service.
- Documents and communicates failure analysis results; maintains accurate repair records and failure-mode data to support continuous improvement.
- Performs minor repairs and maintenance of production and test equipment.
- Maintains accurate records and manages diagrams, manuals, schematics, and blueprints.
- Follows site established housekeeping rules within the workshop area.
- Behaves in a manner that ensures the safety of themselves, their team members, and others on the work sites.
- Refuses all unsafe work and immediately reports all unsafe conditions and behaviors to their manager.
- Reports incidents, injuries, and near misses and participates in the investigative process.
