Open Until Filled Primary Purpose

Under general supervision, assist in maintaining and preparing athletic fields for competitive events along with taking care of the nursery.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • Current & valid Driver’s License - required
Special Knowledge / Skills
  • General knowledge of landscape maintenance
  • Ability to understand detailed written or oral instructions
  • General knowledge of the Maintenance Department’s organization and operation
  • Organizational, communication, customer service, and interpersonal skills required to achieve the goals of the position
  • Demonstrated knowledge of athletic field equipment and set up
  • Demonstrated ability to work under time constraints to ensure achievement of completion
Work Conditions
  • Tools/Equipment Used:
    Garden tools; small hand tools; power tools; heavy equipment including backhoe, tractor, grader; and power mower.
  • Posture:
    Frequent standing, climbing stairs, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting; work in tiring and uncomfortable positions.
  • Motion:
    Frequent walking, climbing stairs, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, and overhead reaching; frequent driving.
  • Lifting:
    Must be able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 25 pounds of force frequently to repair and/or move equipment and objects.
  • Environment:
    Frequent changes in tasks; work outside on slippery or uneven walking surfaces; frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures and all weather conditions, dust, high noise level, vibration; exposure to chemicals, fuels and electrical hazards; work around machinery with moving parts; may work alone; regularly work irregular or prolonged days/hours; frequent district wide travel.
  • Mental Demands:
    Frequent changes in task; maintain emotional control under stress. Regular attendance is an essential function.
Minimum Experience

One year of related experience preferred.

Major Responsibilities and Duties
  • Keep stadium and nursery grounds neat and clean including, but not limited to, sidewalks, bleachers, driveways and parking lots, by mowing, sweeping, washing and edging.
  • Must be present to maintain stadium during events.
  • Report all emergency situations, maintenance and safety concerns to appropriate personnel.
  • Maintain accountability of tools, equipment and supplies assigned to stadium and nursery.
  • Prepare and maintain stadium and north nursery field for all UIL competitive events.
  • Provide cultural care of turf, trees and shrubs.
  • Perform necessary maintenance on equipment and tools.
  • Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with all local policies and state and federal statutes including the Educator Code of Ethics.
  • Perform such other tasks and accept such other responsibilities as may be assigned.
