I.Job Summary
Performs highly complex maintenance and repair supervisory work. Work involves overseeing maintenance and construction staff involved in the installation, care, and repair of state facilities and equipment. Works under limited supervision with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
II. Essential Functions- Oversees and participates in scheduling the preventive maintenance program for packing plant facilities and equipment; oversees maintenance and repair staff and ensures that work standards and safety and building regulations are met.
- Reviews requests for maintenance and repairs and initiates maintenance and repair work; inventories supplies and equipment; initiates requisitions for materials and supplies.
- Inspects buildings, equipment, and grounds to identify future maintenance and repair needs; inspects completed work; prepares and reviews inspection findings and reports results to staff and management; prepares reports and coordinates and maintains related files and records.
- Trains and supervises inmate workers in the maintenance and repair of equipment.
- Assists in maintaining security of assigned inmates.
- Performs a variety of marginal duties not listed, to be determined and assigned as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
Education, Experience, and Training
- Graduation from an accredited senior high school, or GED, and two years full-time wage-earning maintenance or construction experience.
- Sixty semester hours from an accredited college or university with six semester hours in a maintenance-related field.
- Graduation from a technical or vocational school with a certificate in industrial plant operations or maintenance.
- Completion of a U.S. Military technical training school in a maintenance-related field.
- Food processing equipment maintenance and repair experience preferred.
Knowledge and Skills
- Knowledge of industrial maintenance and repair techniques, including plumbing, heating, sanitation, and electrical systems.
- Knowledge of safety procedures and regulations.
- Knowledge of agency and departmental organizational structure, policies, procedures, rules, and regulations preferred.
- Skill to communicate ideas and instructions clearly and concisely.
- Skill in the operation, maintenance, and repair of various tools and equipment.
- Skill in inventory control methods and the operation of computers.
- Skill to interpret and apply rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Skill in the use of computers and related equipment in a stand‑alone or local area network environment.
- Skill to prepare and maintain complex records and files in an automated system.
- Skill to train and supervise inmates.
A. Physical and Cognitive Requirements
- Ability to walk, stand, sit, crawl, twist, kneel, push, stoop, reach above the shoulder, grasp, pull, bend repeatedly, climb stairs and ladders, identify colors, hear with aid, see, write, count, read, speak, analyze, alphabetize, lift and carry 45 lbs. and over, perceive depth, operate a motor vehicle, and operate motor equipment.
B. Working Conditions
- Working inside and outside, around machines with moving parts and objects, moving objects or vehicles, radiant and electrical energy.
- Working closely with others, working alone, working protracted or irregular hours, constant noise.
- Exposure to excessive heat, cold, dampness and chill, grease, oils, solvents, slippery or uneven walking surfaces, below ground, on ladders or scaffolding, in water, vibration.
- Travel by car, van, bus, airplane.
C. Equipment Used
- Computer and related equipment, calculator, copier, fax machine, tools and equipment for plumbing, Heat, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC), electrical, electronics, and boiler maintenance and repair, dolly, telephone, automobile.
