Director of Plant Maintenance & Facilities

PRIMARY PURPOSE

Direct and manage district’s maintenance and custodial operations. Maintain physical school plant in excellent operating condition so that full educational use may be made at all times. Provide a physical environment that is functional, safe, clean, and attractive.

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience, Preferred
• Clear and valid Texas driver’s license

• Demonstrate knowledge of the basic principles of construction, school plant maintenance, and security
• Strong communication, public relations, organizational and interpersonal skills
• Ability to manage and coordinate diverse district functions through subordinate supervisors

• Ability to successfully manage budget and personnel
• Knowledge of wage and salary, benefits, and employment laws

• Tools/Equipment Used:
  Standard office equipment including computer and peripherals; district vehicle
• Posture:
  Prolonged sitting; frequent standing, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting; may work in tiring and uncomfortable positions

Regular attendance is an essential function

• At least three years of successful experience in a supervisory capacity in either business, industry, or a government agency
• At least three years of successful experience in the area of planning or maintaining a large physical plant or facility

• Ensure district facilities are functional, safe, clean, and well maintained.
• Develop and maintain written departmental procedures for maintenance, repair, and operations of all district buildings and equipment. Ensure work orders are processed and executed in a timely manner.
• Prepare plans and specifications for contracted repair work and site improvement for submission to purchasing department for bids.
• Develop and implement a program of preventive maintenance.
• Direct the maintenance of all buildings and grounds as to cleanliness and safety.
• Oversee the operation of the HVAC systems and emergency generators to ensure they are operational and providing the necessary heat and cooling according to season.
• Oversee the repair, lubrication, and cleaning of boiler equipment.
• Responsible for the proper upkeep and maintenance of playing fields, grounds, and other necessary facilities for athletics and other school activities.
• Conduct periodic inspection of all school facilities to insure that safety procedures are in operation.
• Work cooperatively with other District staff members to determine priorities and develop timelines for completing projects.
• Direct the process of developing standards and criteria for the various fixtures, components, materials, and procedures to be used in the modernization and renewal of the buildings.

• Develop and administer budget based on documented needs and ensure operations are cost effective and funds are managed wisely.
• Manage the process of advertising and awarding the contract for the various bid packages that will provide for optimum coordination of the effort.
