Registered Nurse

The Amarillo VA Health Care System, Amarillo, TX is seeking two full time Registered Nurses (Gastroenterology) to work with interdisciplinary team members, providing patient driven care to Veterans served primarily by the Gastroenterology team and other specialty services.

The Registered Nurse (Gastroenterology) utilizes the nursing process to consult with patients and manage specialized

care in the Gastroenterology Outpatient Specialty Clinic, treating patients with gastrointestinal diseases, within the digestive system, including the GI tract (esophagus, stomach and intestines) and biliary organs.

Duties include the following:

* Provide direct nursing care to patients undergoing gastrointestinal endoscopy procedures, including diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.

* Administers and monitors moderate sedation per provider orders and institutional policy; demonstrates current competency and experience with moderate sedation, including monitoring, recognition of complications, and emergency intervention.

* Performs comprehensive pre-procedure, intra-procedure, and post-procedure nursing assessments in accordance with established policies and standards of care

* Assists providers during endoscopic procedures, anticipating procedural needs and maintaining patient safety and comfort

* Demonstrates working knowledge of and proficiency with GI endoscopy equipment, including endoscopes, processors, monitors, suction, and accessory devices

* Ensures proper cleaning, handling, and storage of endoscopic equipment in compliance with infection prevention standards and manufacturer guidelines

* Accurately documents nursing care, sedation monitoring, and procedural data in the electronic medical record

* Responds appropriately to adverse events, including sedation-related complications and cardiopulmonary emergencies

Work Schedule:

0630 - 1700 rotating 10 hour shifts including on-call
