Northwest Texas Healthcare System (NWTHS) is a 495‑bed system serving the city of Amarillo and the surrounding region.
Position Summary: The Nurse Educator assists with onboarding new hires onto the unit and with the ongoing education of staff throughout the year. Duties include assigning preceptors to new hires, overseeing the onboarding process, coordinating orientation progress meetings, and supporting annual competency validation and regulatory compliance. The role also promotes a culture of safety and Service Excellence.
Responsibilities- Assist with onboarding of new hires onto the unit, assigning preceptors and coordinating orientation progress meetings.
- Oversee orientation packets, pathways, and the overall onboarding process.
- Support annual competency validation and ensure educational foundations meet regulatory requirements.
- Promote organizational culture of safety and Service Excellence across all customer groups.
- Demonstrate leadership in service provision, collaborating across units to integrate services and improve performance.
- Maintain accountability for unit processes, implementing improvements and documenting outcomes.
- Ensure regulatory compliance with standards from The Joint Commission, Texas Department of State Health Services, and the Board of Nursing.
- Graduate of an accredited nursing school.
- Current license or permit to practice professional nursing in the State of Texas.
- BSN required or national certification in a nursing specialty within one year of becoming a unit‑based educator.
- Three years of comparable nursing experience; education experience preferred.
- Handle with Care certification, renewed annually.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association upon hire or within 30 days of start date, and maintained throughout employment.
