Responsibilities

Job Title:
Charge Nurse

Assumes shift responsibility and accountability for the planning and provision of direct and indirect nursing care to the patient, family, care partner and appropriate others.

Coordinates multi-disciplinary team members, directs and facilitates nursing staff in obtaining safe, optimal health care outcomes.

Supports activities that meet the facility vision, mission and goals.

Provides professional leadership and support to the healthcare team.

Utilizes the concept of Patient Centered Care as the foundation for all nursing care.

Demonstrates Service Excellence standards at all times.

Develops, implements, and evaluates an age-appropriate plan of care utilizing the nursing process, clinical skills, and patient education.

Maintains professional behavior when dealing with issues or conflicts, utilizing appropriate resources as needed.

Provides an environment conducive to safety for patients, families, visitors, and employees.

Assesses risks to patient safety and implements appropriate precautions.

Complies with approved standards as outlined by the organization and accrediting agencies.

Complies with safety and injury prevention standards to minimize risk to self, co-workers, patients, and visitors.

Utilizes leadership skills in delegating and providing feedback concerning staff performance.

Demonstrates initiative, collaborative approach, and sound judgment in day‑to‑day management at the unit level.

Manages satisfaction of department outcomes to include patients, families, peers, employees, and physicians through effective communication and responsiveness to customer issues.

Accountable for appropriate staffing for each shift, based on patient census, acuity, and available resources.

• Graduate of an accredited or NLN‑approved RN program.
• Must successfully pass any pre‑employment assessment(s).
• Pass BLS from the American Heart Association (or obtain during orientation) and maintain certification throughout employment.
• Current state nursing license or permit to practice nursing in Texas.
• Complete de‑escalation training within 90 days of hire (no ongoing maintenance required).
• Ongoing compliance with demonstration of clinically pertinent competencies as determined by the facility.
