Position: Registered Nurse / RN / Lactation Consultant / L&D / Full Time

Summary

The Lactation Educator is to provide/secure care required by the breastfeeding population and is available on a consultation basis as requested by obstetricians and pediatricians. The Lactation Educator provides opportunities for the formal and informal growth and development of the nursing staff concerning aspects of lactation and represents Northwest Texas Healthcare System in the community as a breastfeeding liaison and resource contact.

The RN assures provision of family centered care to an assigned patient population in a professional manner, utilizing the nursing process and the principles of continuous quality improvement in collaboration with other health team members. The Lactation Consultant supports an organizational culture for Service Excellence and practices the Service Excellence standards to all customer group.

Job Duties /Responsibilities
  • Develops, implements, and evaluates a plan of care for the breastfeeding mother.
  • Maintains professional behavior when dealing with issues or conflicts, utilizing appropriate resources, as needed.
  • Provides an environment conducive to safety for patients, visitors, and employees.
  • The Lactation Consultant will assess risks to patient safety and implement the appropriate precautions.
  • The Lactation Consultant will comply with appropriate and approved standards, as outlined by the organization and accrediting agencies.

Qualifications

EDUCATION, TRAINING, EXPERIENCE AND LICENSES/REGISTRATIONS

REQUIRED:

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
  • Certification by and accredited lactation Education/Consultation Training Program.
  • Minimum of two (2) years nursing experience in Newborn Nursery or NICU.
  • Current license or permit to practice nursing in the State of Texas
  • Possess current BLS certification upon hire and maintain certification throughout employment
  • NRP within 6 months of employment and maintain certification throughout employment
