This is an exciting time to work for Amarillo College! We are seeking our next Faculty - Nursing Simulation/Skills Lab who will be all-in on our mission and who supports student learning, skill development, and clinical readiness through the facilitation of nursing skills practice, simulation activities, and experiential learning opportunities within the SKILLS Hub. Working collaboratively with nursing faculty and under the guidance of Board of Nursing approved Amarillo College faculty, this position assists vocational nursing students in the development of psychomotor competence, clinical reasoning, communication, professionalism, and safe patient care practices in a controlled and supportive learning environment.
The Simulation/Skills Instructor mentoring and providing instructional support resource within the skills and simulation environment, guiding students through the critical transition from theoretical knowledge to clinical application and mastery. This position plays an essential role in preparing students for successful clinical placement by reinforcing foundational nursing competencies, promoting confidence, and ensuring safe and effective patient care practices through hands‑on instruction, simulation, and individualized remediation.
EDUCATIONRequired:
Associate Degree in Nursing.
Preferred:
Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.
Required:
Three (3) years of recent bedside clinical nursing experience in an acute care, long‑term care, or related patient care setting.
Preferred:
Prior experience in nursing education, staff development, clinical instruction, precepting, simulation facilitation, or academic laboratory instruction.
Required:
Current and unencumbered license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Texas.
- Facilitate hands‑on demonstrations and guided practice of nursing procedures and psychomotor skills, including but not limited to tracheostomy care, sterile technique, medication administration, pharmacological interventions, wound care, catheterization, and other nursing competencies required within the vocational nursing curriculum.
- Provide individualized instruction, one‑on‑one mentoring, and small‑group coaching to support student development, refine technical skills, improve manual dexterity, and build confidence in patient care delivery.
- Assist faculty with formative and summative skills assessments, simulations, and competency evaluations to ensure students meet program expectations and rigorous patient safety standards required for clinical placement and progression within the program.
- Support faculty‑directed simulation experiences utilizing simulation software, manikin technology, and realistic patient care scenarios to create immersive learning environments that reinforce clinical concepts and decision‑making skills.
- Assist in facilitating faculty‑developed simulation activities designed to strengthen students’ clinical judgment, critical thinking, prioritization, delegation, and real‑time decision‑making in a safe, controlled, and educational setting.
- Facilitate Care Group simulations emphasizing holistic patient care management, time management, prioritization of care, documentation practices, communication with healthcare teams, and safe nursing interventions.
- Reinforce the transition from "performing a skill" to "managing patient care" by emphasizing bedside manner, patient safety, communication, professional accountability, documentation accuracy, and interprofessional collaboration.
- Execute faculty‑developed remediation plans for students who are unsuccessful in skills check‑offs or simulation requirements by providing additional instruction, guided practice, and individualized support to promote competency achievement and student success.
