Foreman - Grounds Maintenance

This is an exciting time to work for Amarillo College! We are seeking our next Foreman - Grounds Maintenance who will be all-in on our mission and who will supervise and actively participate in all aspects of grounds and landscape maintenance across Amarillo College properties. Direct the daily work of grounds maintenance staff and provide hands-on guidance in mowing, planting, cultivating, pruning, trimming, irrigation, landscape modification, and general grounds care.

Operate and oversee the safe use of gasoline-powered and electric groundskeeping equipment, machinery, hand tools, and power tools. Coordinate preventive maintenance, troubleshoot equipment issues, and perform or oversee minor repairs to groundskeeping tools and equipment.

• Required:
  
  High School Diploma or GED.
• Preferred:
  Associates Degree.

• Required:
  
  Two (2) years of experience in grounds maintenance work.
• Preferred:
  One (1) year of experience in grounds maintenance supervision.

Required:

• Valid Texas Class C Driver’s License with a 3-year safe driving record.
• Current State of Texas Pesticide Private Applicator’s License or ability to obtain the license.
• Irrigation system certification for installation, maintenance, and repair of irrigation systems or ability to obtain the license.

• Supervise, assign, and inspect the daily work of grounds maintenance employees to ensure College grounds, landscaped areas, and outdoor facilities are maintained safely and effectively.
• Provide hands-on instruction, technical guidance, coaching, and performance feedback to grounds maintenance employees.
• Recommend staffing, training, equipment, and operational improvements to management.
• Plan and participate in the maintenance of lawns, turf, trees, shrubs, flower beds, ground cover, and interior plants through mowing, edging, seeding, planting, transplanting, watering, fertilizing, mulching, pruning, trimming, cultivating, and weed control.
• Inspect plant materials and landscaped areas for insects, disease, environmental stress, physical damage, and other maintenance needs. Identify and recommend appropriate treatment, removal, or replacement.
• Install, operate, inspect, adjust, troubleshoot, and perform routine repairs to irrigation systems. Monitor watering schedules to support plant health and water conservation.
• Apply fertilizers, herbicides, pesticides, and other groundskeeping chemicals in accordance with label requirements, College procedures, and applicable safety regulations. Ensure employees use required personal protective equipment and safe application practices.
• Maintain accurate records related to irrigation, chemical applications, inspections, equipment maintenance, inventory, and other grounds operations as required.
• Coordinate and perform general outdoor maintenance and minor repairs, including the installation, removal, and upkeep of landscape lighting, signage, barricades, gates, fencing, bicycle racks, posts, rock walls, and similar campus fixtures.
• Inspect College grounds, sidewalks, streets, parking lots, athletic or activity areas, drains, and other outdoor spaces for litter, debris, damage, and safety concerns. Coordinate and participate in cleaning, sweeping, raking, hauling, and disposal activities.
• Coordinate the collection and transport of trash, landscape waste, and debris to designated disposal or collection areas.
• Support inclement weather operations by coordinating and applying sand, gravel, salt, deicer, or other approved materials to snow- or ice-covered sidewalks, parking lots, entrances, and other outdoor areas.
• Prepare and maintain outdoor locations for College activities, campus operations, special events, vendors, students, employees, visitors, and members of the public.
• Operate College vehicles, groundskeeping machinery, power equipment, and hand tools safely and in accordance with manufacturer instructions, traffic laws, and College procedures.
• Ensure grounds maintenance equipment, tools, vehicles, and machinery remain operational by coordinating and performing inspections, cleaning, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and minor repairs within the scope of the department.
