The Lab Sample Prep Technician 1 plays a vital role in our mission by providing excellent service and fulfilling daily responsibilities to ensure quality, problem resolution, and reliability for customers. This position is critical to the safety of animals’ lives, natural resources, and the environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Manage sample processing workflow:
Focus on the efficient intake and thorough processing of samples, including accurate weighing, prompt grinding, splitting, transferring, and recordkeeping. - Maintain lab cleanliness:
Responsible for routine maintenance and housekeeping duties as directed. - Collaborate for success:
Work closely with team members, the Laboratory Supervisor, and the Laboratory Manager to ensure operational growth and excellent customer service. - Commit to skill development:
Continuously learn and develop the necessary skills to contribute effectively to laboratory operations. - Uphold professional standards:
Maintain a professional image by working effectively individually and within a team while prioritizing safety, quality, productivity, clear communication, and proactive troubleshooting. - Support general operations:
Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications- Education: Education in a science and/or agricultural-related area of study is preferred but not required, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience in a related field.
- Experience: Agricultural and laboratory operations knowledge and experience is preferred.
- Licenses: A valid driver’s license with a safe driving record is required.
- Supervision: This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.

Skills:
Proficient in personal computer operations using Windows-based software, Microsoft Office, and the Internet, alongside the ability to learn various software programs. - Analytical & Technical
Skills:
Ability to maintain close attention to detail, keep sample numbers in exact order, differentiate colors, and execute repetitive motions. - Mathematical
Skills:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals. Ability to calculate proportions and percentages and apply these concepts to practical situations. - Language & Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to read safety rules, operating/maintenance instructions, and technical procedures, and effectively respond to questions from managers, clients, and colleagues.
- Reasoning & Problem Solving: Critical thinking and problem-solving skills to quickly perform a mental assessment of workplace hazards, carry out written or oral instructions, and resolve customer questions or concerns immediately.
- Professionalism: Prompt and regular attendance, flexibility to manage change and meet deadlines, and the ability to think and behave ethically even when working unsupervised.
- Physical Activity: Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, or operate a computer for long periods. Requires frequent lifting or moving of up to 30 pounds, and occasionally up to 50 pounds. Frequently required to climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Vision: Requires close, distance, color, and peripheral vision, plus depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
- Working Conditions: Exposure to varying noise levels, vibrations, all weather conditions, hazardous/caustic chemicals, and various odors including manure. Strict adherence to all safety policies and programs is mandatory.
- Schedule & Travel: Hours fluctuate based on peak seasons, requiring long days, weeks, and months as needed. Must be willing to work weekends and holidays. Travel is required as needed.
