Position:
FOOD SERVICE WORKER

Position overview:

The Food Service Worker is responsible for the delivery and service of patient meals, sanitation in the food service department (including dish washing, cart washing, pots and pans washing, and trash removal). Follows sanitation guidelines set by the State of Texas Health Department.

Job Duties/Responsibilities:

Delivers food trays to patients’ rooms and provides service, including pouring beverages, removing plastic coverings from food, and setting the food tray so the patient can reach and eat the food.

Checks patient trays before leaving the kitchen to ensure all items ordered are on the tray. No more than one error per day is accepted.

Gathers and delivers floor stock. Rotates stock when putting away in the refrigerator on the nurse unit. Discards any outdated products.

Washes dishes, pans, and utensils for patients, cafeteria, and catering.

Sanitizes patient’s carts daily.

Empties trash in the food service area.

Ensures that the Dietary Department meets State, Medicare, The Joint Commission, and other regulations.

Regularly attends and actively participates in department meetings.

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education, Training, Experience and Licenses/Registrations

Required:

High school graduate or GED preferred.

Must successfully complete the pre-employment assessment.

Prefer successful completion of Step One of the Certified Dietary Manager course, The Food Service Worker.

Must be able to read and comprehend.

Typing and basic computer skills preferred.

Physical and Sensory Requirements:

Ability to read and write English.

Ability to communicate with staff, physicians, support agencies, vendors, and others.

Ability to remain calm under stress.

Bending, kneeling, crouching, twisting, lifting (10-30 lbs), grasping, fine hand/eye coordination, pushing and pulling, prolonged standing or sitting.

Quantitative/mathematical ability (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, standard/metric measurement).

Exposure to cold when entering refrigerator/freezer and to fumes from chemicals, cooking odors, gases and odors from patient rooms.

Potential hazards from cuts from knives and meat slicer and burns from cooking and heating surfaces.
