Position: Security Officer (Armed) - Part Time

Job Summary

This armed position is under the direct supervision of the Manager for an assigned high profile site and performs a variety of security‑related duties. In this position, you will observe and report activities and incidents at assigned locations, providing for the security and safety of client property, visitors, and personnel.

As an armed officer, you may respond to unusual or emergency situations using appropriate escalation of force levels up to and including armed response as dictated by the situation and protocol. Additionally, you will assist in preserving order and enforcing regulations and directives for the site pertaining to personnel, visitors, and premises; control access to client site and facility through the admittance process;

respond in all situations; monitor entrances and exits and act to prevent unapproved or unlawful entry.

Some assignments may patrol the assigned site on foot or in vehicle, checking for unsafe conditions such as hazards, unlocked doors, and security violations; protect evidence or the scene of incident in the event of accidents, emergencies, or security investigations; prepare logs or reports as requested. May be exposed to stressful situations.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Control access to client site or facility through the admittance process.
  • Respond to unusual or emergency situations using appropriate escalation of force up to and including armed response following established protocol.
  • Provide a courteous, respectful, and pleasant interaction with client employees and visitors, presenting a good image of the client and its security department.
  • Communicate in a manner that is open, honest and responsive in all situations.
  • Monitor entrances and exits; act to prevent unapproved or unlawful entry; control movements of people and vehicles; operate gate and examine vehicle contents; monitor remote entrances using CCTV; operate remote access devices; direct persons who cause a disturbance to leave the property.
  • Patrol assigned site on foot or in vehicle; check for unsafe conditions, hazards, unlocked doors, security violations, blocked ingress and egress, mechanical problems, and unauthorized persons; inspect buildings and grounds using appropriate equipment and protective gear.
  • Protect evidence or the scene of incident in the event of accidents, emergencies, or security investigations; set up barriers and signage; provide direction or information to others.
  • Prepare logs or reports; write or type reports or enter information in a computer using standard grammar; inspect security control logs and take action as required.
  • Observe and report incidents or suspicious activity to client representatives, company management, life/safety personnel or public safety authorities as appropriate.
  • Respond to incidents of fire, medical emergency, bomb threat, flooding, water discharge, elevator emergency, hazardous materials, inclement weather, and other incidents following procedures established for the site.
  • Carry out specific tasks and duties of a similar nature and scope as required for the assigned site.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Be at least 21 years of age.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • At least two (2) years of armed security or law‑enforcement experience, or two (2) years of honorable service with the US Armed Forces.
  • Preferred: state Guard or clearance card, gun/OC spray/Baton permit, CPR/First Aid certification.
  • Must undergo and meet company standards for background checks, reference checks, controlled substance testing, physical examination requirements and a behavioral selection survey.
Competencies
  • Meet and maintain state, county and municipal licensing and permit requirements for armed security work and protective device and weapons qualifications.
  • Maintain certifications for Basic Life Support CPR/AED and First Aid by American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
  • Knowledge and ability to learn security operations and procedures.
  • Read, hear, speak, and write clearly to communicate with employees and clients.
  • Write routine correspondence, including logs and reports.
  • Follow written, oral, or diagrammatic instructions.
