Position

Security Guard

Under general supervision, the Security Guard position provides security services for the Security and Safety Department. The employee must maintain a Texas Private Security Level II License.

• Respond to requests by radio, pager, telephone, or other communication methods.
• Respond to emergency calls for assistance.
• Respond to panic alarms within the facility and/or pavilion.
• Conduct periodic inspection tours based on pre-determined priorities and conditions.
• Monitor CCTV security system and become proficient in troubleshooting when required.
• Maintain logs of inspections as required.
• Complete incident reports for any criminal and/or civil situations.
• Participate in fire drills and other life safety awareness programs and document as required.
• Participate in and support a process to improve performance of services.
• Respond to requests from the pavilion to help with mental health situations.
• Attend Verbal De‑Escalation Training and Handle With Care Training, and perform duties related to mental health patients.
• Serve subpoenas as required.
• Appear in court as needed to provide testimony.
• Provide escorts to law enforcement agencies, TDCJ, and mental health as required.
• Assist Child Protective Services as required.
• Register and log sex offenders as necessary.
• Issue and log criminal trespass warnings as they arise.
• Perform lockups and unlocks of doors daily throughout the facility, including pavilion and wound care units.
• Enforce NWTHS parking policy, including written citations.
• Enforce NWTHS non‑smoking policy, including written citations.
• Complete other duties assigned by Director of Security.

• U.S. citizen of good character with no felony or Class A convictions in the past 10 years.
• High school diploma or GED required.
• Valid Texas driver’s license with a good driving record.
• Valid Texas Private Security Level II license (or eligibility for State of Texas Peace Officers License) compliant with renewal regulations.
• Experience in arrest, search, seizure, interviewing techniques and interrogation preferred.
• Handle with care class required and maintained yearly.

• Ability to evaluate and interpret information and make independent decisions.
• Work under stressful conditions and remain calm in various environments.
• Communicate with staff, physicians, patients, families, vendors, visitors and others.
• Read, write and converse in English at a high school graduate level.
• Understand laws and regulations.
• Lift minimum 50 pounds, bend, grasp, fine hand/eye coordination, push and pull, stand or sit for prolonged periods.
• Tolerate high noise levels, extreme temperatures, and/or weather conditions for prolonged periods.
• Understand and practice safety requirements involving hazardous chemicals, biological materials, dangerous equipment.
• Respond to pager, radio, telephone, and other auditory stimulation.
• Discriminate color.
• Perform basic math functions and measurements.
• Normal hearing and ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
