JOB SUMMARY

Performs advanced supervisory maintenance and construction work. Work involves overseeing maintenance and construction staff involved in the installation, care, and repair of state facilities and equipment; and supervising the work of inmates. Works under minimal supervision with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

II. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Supervises, inspects, schedules, assigns, and participates in general maintenance, construction, and electrical work to include preventive, corrective, and emergency maintenance; and coordinates work assignments with other supervisors to ensure efficient use of resources.
  • Prepares estimates of work hours, materials, and resources required for projects; initiates requisitions for materials and supplies; and prepares reports and maintains records of repairs.
  • Trains and supervises inmate maintenance and construction workers and ensures compliance with applicable safety rules, regulations, and standards.
  • Assists in maintaining the security of assigned inmates.
  • Performs a variety of marginal duties not listed, to be determined and assigned as needed.
III. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A. Education, Experience, and Training

  • Graduation from an accredited senior high school or equivalent or GED.
  • Two years full-time, wage-earning experience as an electrician in maintenance, construction, or an industrial environment
  • or completion of an applicable program from a trade or technical school accredited by an organization recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) or by the United States Department of Education (USDE), or by the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) and one year full-time, wage-earning experience as an electrician in maintenance, construction, or an industrial environment
  • or completion of an applicable program from a U.S military technical training school and one year full-time, wage-earning experience as an electrician in maintenance, construction, or an industrial environment.
  • Experience in the supervision of inmates is preferred.
  • B. Knowledge and Skills

  • Knowledge of electrical systems maintenance procedures and techniques.
  • Knowledge of current electrical codes, rules, regulations, and requirements.
  • Knowledge of installation and maintenance of electrical equipment.
  • Knowledge of principles involving the mechanical design, fundamentals, and operation of machines.
  • Knowledge of agency and departmental organizational structure, policies, procedures, rules, and regulations preferred.
  • Skill to communicate ideas and instructions clearly and concisely.
  • Skill to coordinate with other staff, departments, officials, agencies, organizations, and the public.
  • Skill to interpret and apply rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Skill in problem-solving techniques.
  • Skill to prepare and maintain accurate records, files, and reports.
  • Skill to plan work in order to meet established guidelines.
  • Skill to operate machinery and equipment related to the assigned area.
  • Skill to read and interpret electrical prints, diagrams, and schematics.
  • Skill to train and supervise the work of inmates.

    A. Ability to walk, stand, sit, kneel, push, stoop, crawl, twist, reach above the shoulder, grasp, pull, bend repeatedly, climb stairs and ladders, identify colors, hear with aid, see, write, count, read, speak, analyze, alphabetize, lift and carry 45 lbs. and over, perceive depth, operate a motor vehicle, and operate motor equipment.
