PRIMARY
PURPOSE:
Primary function is the fence and sign installation and repair. Under general supervision, construct, install and repair various sizes and types of gates, fences and traffic signs.
Minimum EducationA high school diploma or GED, preferred
Certification / LicenseValid Driver’s license required
Special Knowledge/Skills- Initiate job planning through job completion
- Set string line, mix and pour concrete, set corner posts, lace and stretch fence wire of various types
- Weld, build gates, install braces, tension bars, security fence and install fencing hardware as required for the position
- Set and display traffic signs for proper visibility and standards
- Read and interpret blueprints
- Assess site conditions and initiate proper and logical steps to address problems/situations
- Detail oriented
- Organization, communication, customer service, and interpersonal skills to achieve position goals
- Operate tools and equipment safely and efficiently
- Tools/Equipment Used: winch (come‑along), wrenches & sockets, drills, grinders, cutting torch, welder, tape measure, posthole digger, toro dingo, shovels, rakes, etc.
- Posture: frequent standing, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, twisting; work in tiring and uncomfortable positions
- Motion: frequent walking, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, overhead reaching; driving; stairs
- Lifting: up to 50 pounds occasionally, 25 pounds frequently, 10 pounds constantly to repair or move equipment and objects
- Environment: outside; slippery or uneven surfaces; extreme hot and cold temperatures; all weather; dust; high noise; vibration; chemicals; fuels; electrical hazards; machinery with moving parts; may work alone; irregular hours; occasional prolonged hours; frequent district‑wide travel
- Mental Demands: maintain emotional control under stress
- Regular attendance is essential
Experience in mechanical, welding and/or carpentry (3 years preferred)
Major Responsibilities and Duties- Install and repair fences and traffic signs to specifications including welding, gate construction, concrete work, setting posts and installing new hardware.
- Estimate materials and procure proper materials and supplies for project completion.
- Identify and resolve various maintenance repair problems related to the fence craft.
- Operate hand/power tools and equipment required in the craft, using good safety practices.
- Maintain tools, equipment and supplies assigned.
- Communicate effectively with Principals, Department Heads and others for scheduling maintenance repairs.
- Inspect and adjust tools and equipment for safety and efficiency and perform preventive maintenance as needed.
- Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
- Ensure compliance with all local policies and state and federal statutes including the Educator Code of Ethics.
- Perform other tasks and accept responsibilities as assigned.
