PRIMARY
PURPOSE:
Maintain buildings and equipment for the district. Work involves repairing of electrical equipment, identifying, diagnosis and repair malfunctions in all areas of electrical equipment and systems. Employee must exercise tact and courtesy in contact with the public, school officials, supervisors, and co-workers.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Education:
High school diploma or equivalent
Certification / License:
Clear and valid Texas driver's license
Valid Texas Journeyman or Master Electrician License required
Special Knowledge/
Skills:
Organizational, communication, customer service, and interpersonal skills required to achieve the
goals of the position
Ability to maintain simple logs and records, as well as the ability to generate reports
Knowledge of electrical circuits, and wiring
Knowledge of current electrical codes and ordinances
Follow written and verbal instructions
Perform mathematical calculations
Diagnose and resolve problems
Demonstrate general knowledge associated with given craft and ability to operate tools (hand and
power) in a safe and efficient manner
Ability to inspect items for proper length, width and shape

Work outside and inside, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces; frequent exposure to
extreme hot and cold temperatures, dust, toxic chemicals and materials, high noise levels, vibration,
and electrical hazards; work around machinery with moving parts; may work in tight or enclosed
spaces; may work alone; regularly work irregular hours, weekends if needed; occasional prolonged
hours;
Frequent changes in tasks; frequent district wide travel

Minimum Experience:
Minimum four years of experience in the electrical trade
MAJOR
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
* Install and repair wiring, electrical fixtures, power equipment, control and distribution apparatus, and components of machinery and equipment following electrical code, manuals, specifications, schematics, and blueprints.
* Install and connect power supply wiring, cables, conduit, and electrical apparatus for machines and equipment in new and existing facilities following diagrams, schematics, or blueprints.
* Use a computerized work order system for equipment maintenance & repair;
Use the computerized inventory system to maintain accountability of equipment repair parts
* Operate specialized power tools including, but not limited to electrical drills, grinders, saws, soldering torches.
* Troubleshoot on-site repairs.
* Measure, assemble, and install electrical conduit using measuring devices, hand tools, pipe threader, and conduit bender.
* Detect needed repairs on buildings, grounds, and equipment following established inspection procedures.
* Repair or recommend replacement of electrical appliances, including commercial ovens, ranges, steam tables, washers, and dryers.
* Receive and complete work orders in a timely manner. Select material and hardware and calculate time and materials estimates. Maintain accurate records on material and labor used.
* Test repaired equipment for compliance with both safety and manufacturer's standards.
* Check and replace electrical motors, belts, vacuum hoses, batteries and compressors.
* Perform general equipment maintenance activities.
* Maintain inventory of district-owned tools, equipment, and materials;
Maintain tools, equipment and supplies assigned.
* Inspect jobs upon completion and ensure areas are clean.
* Work with building principals and supervisors to schedule and complete projects.
* Respond to emergency repairs for onsite service.
* Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting and climbing. Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
* Correct unsafe conditions in work area and promptly report any conditions that are not immediately correctable to supervisor.
* Perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment to make sure equipment is in safe operating condition.
* Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
