Role SummaryRoberts Ditching is seeking an experienced Boring Machine Operator (Directional Drill Operator) to support underground utility installation projects across West Texas. This role is responsible for operating horizontal directional drilling (HDD) equipment to install conduit, fiber, and other utilities safely and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities- Operate horizontal directional drilling (HDD) equipment safely and efficiently
- Perform bore setup, drilling, and pullback operations
- Read and interpret bore plans, utility maps, and locate markings
- Utilize locating systems to track drill head and maintain accuracy
- Identify and avoid existing underground utilities
- Perform routine maintenance and inspections on equipment
- Troubleshoot drilling challenges in varying soil conditions
- Collaborate with crew members, locators, and supervisors
- Follow all company safety policies and procedures
- 2+ years of experience operating directional drilling/boring equipment
- Experience with drill rigs such as Vermeer, Ditch Witch, or similar
- Familiarity with locating systems (Digitrak, Subsite, etc.)
- Ability to read bore plans and understand underground utility layouts
- Willingness to travel regularly within West Texas
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
- CDL (Class A or
B) - Experience operating additional equipment (excavators, backhoes, skid steers)
- Experience in telecom, fiber, or power distribution projects
- OSHA certifications or safety training
