Job TitleDistribution Journeyman Lineman Serviceman – Amarillo, TX
SummaryThe person filling this position must be self-motivated, work well with others, and possess a positive attitude and commitment to work safely. They will provide quality customer service and deliver satisfaction while working productively. The role requires a well‑rounded knowledge of distribution primary feeders, transformer loading and fusing practices. The ideal candidate is familiar with company safety regulations and the hazards involved in distribution service work.
Primary responsibilities include installing, maintaining, and removing overhead and underground distribution conductors and equipment. The candidate must be able to climb poles, work on energized conductors and equipment, perform hot‑stick work on energized high‑voltage conductors, work in inclement weather, and be available for call‑out work as outlined in the Journeyman Serviceman position.
- Successfully score on the Journeyman Assessment.
- Hold a Journeyman Lineman Certification approved by the Department of Labor.
- Possess a Class A CDL.
- Capable of performing all aspects of electric distribution overhead, underground construction, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
- Available for emergency call‑outs as per a schedule.
- Have effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Potentially required to travel for extended periods.
- Physically fit, able to lift up to 90 pounds, and able to perform strenuous physical labor under all conditions.
- Experience with bucket trucks, digger derricks, trenchers, and groundwork with utility line crews.
- High awareness of safety and compliance with company safety rules at all times.
- Reside within 20 miles of the Amarillo, TX service center.
- Selection criteria may include testing and/or assessment.
- Pass Xcel Energy security and drug screening.
In addition to the above, a well‑rounded knowledge of distribution primary feeders, transformer loading and fusing practices, meter sets and their connections, hot‑line tools, protective devices, fuses, lightning arresters, disconnect switches, breakers, grounding sets, transformers and their connections, and troubleshooting is preferred.
