Child Nutrition Kitchen Repair Preventive Maintenance

Primary Purpose

Under minimum supervision, maintains commercial kitchen equipment in school kitchens.

Minimum

Education/Certification:

• High School diploma or GED
• EPA Universal Tech Certification – preferred

Certification / License: Must possess a valid Texas Drivers license.

Special Knowledge/

Skills:

• Follow oral and written instructions and work cooperatively with others
• Read a variety of correspondence, lists, forms, work orders, etc.
• Perform basic computer tasks
• Demonstrate general knowledge to operate tools safely and efficiently
• Organizational, communication, customer service, and interpersonal skills to achieve position goals
• Manage time effectively
• Be able and willing to learn and use an online work order system and/or email

Minimum Experience: Two years of experience repairing commercial kitchen equipment or similar experience, or an acceptable alternative.

Regular attendance is an essential function.

• Equipment/Tools Used:
  Saws, drills, hammers, screwdrivers, chisels, pliers, scrapers, knives, etc.
• Posture:
  Frequent standing, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, twisting; work in uncomfortable positions.
• Motion:
  Frequent walking, climbing stairs/ladders, grasping, wrist flexion/extension, overhead reaching.
• Lifting:
  Exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently.
• Environment:
  Work outside and inside, on slippery or uneven surfaces; exposure to extreme temperatures, dust, noise, vibration, machinery with moving parts; may work alone; irregular hours; occasional prolonged hours; district wide travel.

• Check with food service technician, e‑mail, preventative maintenance schedule, and work order system for assignments at the start of each day.
• Prioritize daily work by importance to complete critical projects early.
• Order and pick up repair parts as needed.
• Follow up on outstanding parts and complete unfinished tasks from previous days.
• Perform preventative maintenance, including blowing out compressors, changing filters, and cleaning/deliming ice and dish machines.
• Diagnose problems in dish machines, ice machines, ovens, ranges, freezers, refrigerators, walk‑ins, milk boxes, and beverage coolers.
• Recover or charge Freon into refrigeration units following environmental guidelines.
• Work safely with hazards such as hot grease, natural gas, corrosive gases, oils, and electrical voltages from 12 VDC to 360 VAC.
• Use repair equipment such as vacuum pumps, recovery systems, refrigerant gauges, multimeters, analog meters, and others as required.
• Maintain school‑provided repair equipment and vehicle.
• Follow safety standards when using all equipment and hand tools.
• Provide quality work in a professional, courteous manner to minimize disturbance to kitchen routines.
• Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
• Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal policies, including the Educator Code of Ethics.
• Perform other tasks and accept additional responsibilities as assigned.
