Maintenance Technician / Mechanic, Heavy Equipment Mechanic
Job Summary
Working with the service manager. Responsible for the safe, efficient, and profitable operation of the Service department. Oversees the work of the mechanics. Able to make proper diagnosis of all components and recommended repairs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Diagnostic ability of all components of the truck.
- Help in writing up repair orders and communicating with the drivers and owners in order to determine problems and solutions.
- Schedule and assign jobs and work areas to employees according to their skills and knowledge, eliminating time lost between jobs.
- Inspect and advise the mechanics on work as it progresses.
- Keep track of each customer job and advise the customer on time of completion, cost, additional repairs.
- Road test and dyno test trucks to diagnose problems and determine if repairs are complete.
- Ensure buildings, grounds, and work areas remain clean and equipment properly maintained.
- Help determine parts to be replaced and coordinate with Parts Department for availability.
- Assist in completing repair orders, verifying the mechanics write‑up, ensuring parts billed correctly, and all lines added; code each repair accurately.
- Determine warranty for parts and ascertain if a repair is warrantable.
- Arrive at least thirty minutes before scheduled mechanic time to analyze work schedule.
- Be willing to work additional hours as workload and business requires and perform other duties as directed by management.
- Help ensure safe working conditions for all employees.
Minimum high school diploma required.
Work ExperienceMinimum four years as a mechanic and at least two years as a shop foreman or lead mechanic.
Mathematical Skills & Reasoning AbilityShould be able to read computer‑generated reports, office reports, invoices, etc., and operate computer terminals.
Special SkillsMust possess good interpersonal skills and have the ability to interact well with customers, vendors, and co‑workers in a positive and constructive manner. Must also have and maintain a Commercial Drivers License (CDL).
Physical DemandsRequires ability to climb around, on, and under trucks to inspect and diagnose. Must lift 50 pounds to the waist and 25 pounds to the shoulder. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
