EssentialJob Duties
- Operates equipment and system components associated with: fire protection systems including water supply reservoir, pump stations, distribution piping through the High-Pressure Fire Loop, control valves, fire alarm control panels, and building riser/sprinkler systems.
- Operates instruments & controls, and computerized equipment associated with Fire Protection Systems and Equipment in a controlled and safe manner to obtain desired results.
- Analyzes blue prints, schematics, and drawings of fire alarm and/or other related electrical systems for the purpose of determining the efficient installation of new or upgraded systems. Coordinates with assigned Supervisors and/or other trades for the purpose of completing projects and work orders efficiently.
- Evaluates performance and condition of equipment by reviewing data, performing operational checks, and observing equipment.
- Diagnoses causes of electrical and water problems or failures in assigned systems for the purpose of identifying equipment and/or systems to repair.
- Informs personnel regarding procedures and/or status of work orders for the purpose of providing information for making decisions, taking appropriate action and/or comply with plant standards.
- Inspects electrical and water fire alarm systems and their components for the purpose of evaluating condition, identifying necessary repairs and doing preventive maintenance.
- Installs electrical system components as assigned (e.g. panels, audible/visual alarms, pull stations, detectors, etc.) for the purpose of providing enhanced and/or upgraded system capabilities.
- Monitor the fire alarm systems work of outside contractors (e.g. new plant facilities, fire system upgrades/expansions, major remodels, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring that the projects are satisfactory completed and within plant site regulations and specifications. Works in a safe intelligent manner, using adequate forethought before taking action.
- Keeps supervisor advised of operating conditions, status and requirements.
- Follows controlled procedures and completes required reading assignments necessary for the safe and controlled operation of Fire Protection Systems and Equipment.
- Prepares written materials for the purpose of documenting activities and/or conveying information and completes Round/Tour Sheets and checklists associated with operations activities.
- Requests equipment and supplies for the purpose of maintaining items required to complete the necessary installation and/or repairs.
- Adheres to Safety and Security regulations.
- Responds to emergency situations during and after hours for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns.
- Transports a variety of tools, equipment and supplies for the purpose of ensuring the availability of materials required at job site.
- Maintains assigned work locations and equipment to required standards.

- Reports operating difficulties as they occur, expedites necessary corrective action to maintain operation.
- Adheres to Environmental, Safety and Security regulations.
- Follows Plant policies and standard operating procedures
- Keeps supervisor advised of operating condition, status and requirements.
- Responsible for maintaining a knowledge of applicable Federal, State, Department of Energy (DOE), Corporate and Plant rules, regulations, Labor Agreements and Plant-wide operating policies and procedures.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Required to attend and/or successfully participate in meetings; attend seminars and complete training classes as determined by Organizational Development and Training, through General Employee Training (Reference DOE Order 5480.19), and Management for the purpose of gathering and conveying information required to perform job functions.
- In their scope of responsibility for maintaining a safe and effective work environment, personnel have the obligation and authority to suspend operations under their responsibility if, in their judgment, the health and safety of employees is endangered and/or adverse impact on the environment is likely (Reference: MNL-352253).
Minimum Qualifications
- Must be able to perform all duties and functions outlined above.
- Must meet initial employment requirements.
- Must be able to read, write and comprehend applicable written and/or oral instructions.
- Must be able to prepare and maintain accurate records.
- Must be physically fit to perform the above job functions as determined by Medical Evaluation.
