Position Summary

The Transit Dispatcher provides support to the PCS mission by dispatching Transit Drivers. The Transit Dispatcher coordinates transit trips, plans and manages routes and schedules, communicates clearly with drivers, and prepares and submits necessary reports.

Essential Duties
  • Supervises and schedules transit drivers for adequate coverage of services; adjusts schedules for leave; utilizes appropriate systems daily to track and modify work schedules (e.g., Paycom, Transportation Manager).
  • Receives and handles telephone reservation requests from clients; verifies trip data with clients to ensure timely pickup and drop off.
  • Identifies, implements, monitors, and manages driver routes and schedules, adjusting for optimization, efficiency, and service excellence.
  • Performs contracted duties; notifies drivers of client pickups; receives call backs of pickups; verifies records and driver reports; sends information for billing.
  • Performs timely data entry and maintains agency systems; inputs client trip information into software (e.g., SHAH); uploads data from tablets into software daily.
  • Maintains accurate files, records, and documentation; ensures confidentiality of information.
  • Performs periodic audits of files and records to ensure required documents are collected and filed appropriately.
  • Retrieves information from records, email, minutes, etc.; prepares written summaries and compiles/distributes reports as needed.
  • Refers customer and driver complaints to Transportation Operations Manager; enforces disciplinary action within 5 days as required.
  • Serves as a backup for walk-in clients and may serve as a driver when needed.
  • Performs general clerical work related to Transportation program administration.
  • Answers questions from clients and employees regarding PCS transportation and resources.
  • Acts as a liaison between PCS and the public; develops and maintains positive relationships with community partners and vendors.
  • Assists program leadership with ensuring compliance with applicable laws and grant guidelines; supports execution of program strategies.
  • Conducts research on trends and best practices to improve transit operations.
  • Maintains positive relationships with all levels of staff; serves as a primary point of contact within the Transportation program.
  • Conducts work ethically in accordance with PCS standards; participates in organizational meetings and staff days as required (some off-site or weekend).
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required. An Associate’s Degree in a relevant field is preferred.

Licenses and

Certifications:

Class B Commercial Driver's License with passenger endorsement required.

Experience: 2+ years of experience in customer service or as dispatcher for a public service agency is required; 2+ years of supervisory experience required; some experience in a Community Action Agency or similar nonprofit preferred.

  • Bilingual ability in English and Spanish strongly preferred.
