Enjoy traveling with railroad companies and assisting with their traffic control needs for railroad construction sites. Perform traffic control and safety projects, setting up and taking down lane closures, while working under direction from the prime contractor. Perform lane closures on state highways and other roadways, either independently or as part of a traffic control crew. Assemble, deliver, and pick up safety products from job sites.
This position reports to the branch manager and crew leader.
- Traveling Position – travel 2 weeks at a time with the railroad. Assist with railroad construction projects.
- A valid Driver's License is required.
- Participate in temporary work zones utilizing warning signs, traffic cones, barrels, etc. in accordance with regulatory requirements.
- Load and unload work zone equipment, sometimes weighing up to 50 pounds, to/from the company vehicle.
- Drive the company vehicle to and from job sites safely.
- Stand and manage traffic control through active work zones while using a stop/slow paddle and radio communication.
- Complete all required paperwork in a timely manner.
- Maintain the company vehicle clean and orderly, informing management of any safety concerns or vehicle problems.
- Comply with all Road Safe Traffic Systems policies, procedures and safety requirements.
- Drive Management Of Traffic (MOT) vehicle to and from project sites and on work sites.
- Place arrow boards or variable message boards in work areas.
- Check the work zone throughout the shift to ensure items remain in their proper location.
- Pick up traffic control items at the beginning and end of each shift and load into the truck.
- Drive Truck-Mounted Attenuator (TMA) vehicle to and from projects to protect workers and the work zone.
- Install, remove, and reset delineators, signs, posts and supports.
- Maintain equipment, including general maintenance and repair.
- Willingness to travel extensively as this is a traveling position.
- Valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to pass a background check, drug test, and meet federal DOT driver requirements.
- Basic reading and writing ability to comply with road signs, complete paperwork, and knowledge of federal motor carrier safety regulations.
- Knowledge of state and local roadways and experience operating delivery vehicles of varying sizes.
- Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds for long periods and knowledge of safe cargo transport procedures.
- Ability to stand for long periods while performing flagging duties.
- Previous experience in traffic control setups is a plus.
- Certification from ATSSA as Worksite Traffic Technician or Supervisor highly preferred.
- Must be able to pass a clean motor vehicle record check and driving test.
- Willingness to be on a rotating on‑call schedule.
- Some mechanical background or experience is required.

Salary Information$16 – $18 per hour.
