Under the regular guidance of the Communications Center Manager, the Communication Specialist has primary responsibility for the general operations and success of the communication/dispatch center. Essential functions include receiving and dispatching all requests for air and ground transport across all bases, facilitating regular communication and coordination between clinical and aviation personnel, and delivering superior customer service to customers and employees of Apollo Med Flight.

A

day in the life:
  • Communicate all requests for air and ground transport to appropriate personnel.
  • Operate all telecommunication equipment associated with air transport.
  • Facilitate the appropriate utilization of air and ground medical resources.
  • Utilize various types of maps to expeditiously process transport request.
  • Coordinate all flight following and ground transport tracking for all Apollo Aircraft and Ground Transport Units.
  • Relay patient reports to hospitals and schedules ground ambulances for patient transfers to hospitals.
  • Act as a liaison for all transports.
  • Perform general secretarial and housekeeping duties.
  • Assist the office staff at Apollo in any assigned task that may be required.
  • Uphold Apollo policies and procedures.
  • Create and maintain meaningful internal and external relationships.
The Background we are looking for:
  • Experience in dispatching with high volume
  • Excellent phone and customer service skills
  • Radio communications experience
  • Able to multi-task and remain calm under pressure
  • Possess a valid driver license
  • Excellent computer and data entry skills
  • Competency in reading different types of maps and familiarity with the geographic regions serviced
  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • Ability to obtain International Association of Medical Transport Communications Specialists (IAMTCS) Certified Flight Communicator
  • Current knowledge of F.C.C. regulations relating to EMS, Law Enforcement, and Fire
  • Working knowledge and practical application of telecommunication systems associated with Public Safety

Must be able to work 12 hr. shifts, days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
