Freight Agent

The Freight Agent role involves safely loading and unloading cargo, including packages, U.S. Mail, fresh seafood, and life-saving medical items. You'll work with other airport teams to keep flights on schedule and ensure shipments reach their destinations. You'll help customers who ship with Southwest Cargo, adjust priorities as needed, and support a smooth operation every day.

Responsibilities include providing friendly service to internal and external customers, working in air freight facilities, handling cash, checks, credit cards, and coupons as forms of payment for shipments, and conducting federally mandated screening of all cargo shipments according to the Southwest Airlines TSA approved security program.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities required include working well with others as part of a team, obtaining and maintaining GSC qualification, complying with DOT drug and alcohol testing program, reading documents, following instructions, learning ramp operations procedures, rules and regulations, typing and/or using a computer keyboard with sufficient speed to meet demands of the job, successfully completing Operations/Freight Agent training program with a 90% or greater average, and being able to handle emergencies as needed.

Education:

High School Diploma or GED. Preferred:
College coursework or degree.

Experience:

Preferred:
Two years of airline/military related work experience in ramp/operations/provisioning functions.

Licensing/Certification:
Must be able to obtain a SIDA badge and meet all local airport requirements. Must possess a valid state motor vehicle operator's license. May be required by Station Leadership to obtain a Customs Seal and meet all requirements to work international flights.

Physical Abilities:
Must be able to lift and move items of 70 pounds and/or more. Must be able to climb, bend, kneel and stand on a frequent basis and for extended periods. Must be able to carry heavy items up and down jetway stairs. Must be able to distinguish each color displayed on every type of screening equipment. Must be able to hear and respond to the spoken voice and to audible alarms generated by screening equipment.

Must maintain the ability to wear prescribed uniforms.

Qualifications:

Must maintain a well-groomed appearance per Company appearance standards as described in established guidelines. Must be a U.S. citizen. Must be at least 18 years of age. Must be able to comply with Company attendance standards as described in established guidelines. Ability to work shift work and/or overtime. Ability to read, speak and write English. Foreign language skills are desirable, but not required.

Pay Rate: $21.01
